One of the problems I have in life is some customers just turn me loose to make their dream come to life sorta kinda. It is fun, usually complicated, and always evolving.

This is an example.

Customer had a six thousand square foot metal building made. I had nothing to do with the original building except to build the pad it was built upon and donating some of the beams.

Customer loves storage. He is an acquirer's acquirer. The space above the main floor, sixty by sixty clear span, drove him crazy, not holding or capable of holding some things.

He was like a puppy with two tails over that space just taking up space. He worried and wondered and of course I was questioned, repeatedly and often about how it could be turned into a loft.

I came across a load of nine pound I beams. And I had a bushel basket of JR beams. Twenty feet was the common measurement one way and six inches the other. Ideas cooked for a bit as the hands were busy doing stuff like the framework for the living quarters in one corner.

I figured the only way a loft could be made that wouldn't interfer with the floor space would be if the loft framework was part of a truss system supporting the roof.

The engineers will probably be all over me like stink on a June Bug over this but............ /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The day's on me like a mockingbird after a grasshopper......I'll post some progress photos tonight.

This building will not only have a twelve hundred square foot loft, there will be an elevator to access it. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

He will also have a four hundred square foot living area, same sized wood working shop, and a matching machine shop, all heated and air conditioned.

I know it's not all fencing, but a man's gotta do, what he likes to do. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That half inch rod in the right hand corner of the last picture is the truss between beams. Here's a shot of that.

Here's a better shot of the truss idea for the support of the floor across the span. We've taken the weight from a down force to a cross force at a thicker part of the web. Instead of pulling down we're pulling together. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif At least I hope so, if not I'm out of politics forever...... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yup, that's a gap in the Jr beams. We needed twenty seven of them puppies, had only twenty, seven new ones coming in tomorrow, also the decking, and the railing material. We should have this project at the point where all we need to do is find the fork lift mast that is going to retire to a life as an elevator. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Harv how tall of a lift do you need I just picked up 3 more Raymond pallet stackers with 6 foot 2.5 inch thick forks for scrap iron price and they all run. That makes 5 in the collection. I think they have a 33 foot lift. Give me a holler if ya need any of them.

All we need is twelve foot of lift. But what you've got sounds exactly what we need. Private Message me your number and a good time to call.

We've got about a dozen people locally looking too. So I expect one will turn up either close to home or one of us will get with you.

The biggest problem I've seen with this system is folks don't change over to a hundred and ten volt hydraulic pump. They stay with the twelve volt system. In about two years they've went through enough batteries to have paid for the hundred and ten volt pump.

Thanks Taylor.
