The younger work force is pretty sad that's for sure. They know and are very good at texting and playing video games though..

Agreed, I will never hire anyone under 35 unless they are a military veteran. They all want $100k too.

We have some very sharp 25 to 30 year old Registered Nurses... two of the older ones did serve but the other didn't... it is competitive to get into Nursing School and today's medical equipment can sometimes be likened to video games... sadly.

A fresh Grad RN starts at 85k here and could be pushing 100k with overtime and two years experience.

Not really related but something I recently observed going to pick up fast food traveling home...

There was a young man behind the counter that was absolutely amazing... one doing the work of three and it did not go unnoticed... the guy behind me pulled out his card... he owns a large paving and grading company and gave the card to the clerk and said I want to hire you for my company and then another said to me never seen someone work so fast and so well... would have made a good video... he was always in motion...

Turned out they were short handed that day and he was it...

Just shows when you are exceptional it still shows.

Man that's equivalent of saying you wont hire anyone that is .......... whatever, not going there. It amazes me how many 50 -60 year olds talk bad about 18-30 year olds. They all got raised by someone! My wife is a high school counselor. She has to talk to all these idiots that raise kids. There are idiots of all ages.
I wish I had wrote down every time someone my parents age told me "I've been doing this 20 years, 30 years etc" and they do a piss poor job. Age and experience doesn't always equal wisdom and work ethic.

Oops, I made comments about hiring someone below the age of 35. I was thinking of and referring to people that I know and have had (negative) experience with, and most of the trouble I had was because I hired them against my better judgement but did because they were a neighbor or friends friend. One case in point was my heating and plumbing in my new house. The jerk I hired was a neighbor and I thought I was giving him a leg up in life. All he did was screw up my house and it cost me to fix it. Another actually asked for $100,000 to work as a laborer on a landscape crew with absolutely no experience but he said he had “potential” and needed the money because he owned a fancy truck, a fancy car and had credit cards. He can keep looking.
Nursing, plumbing & heating trades, and other jobs are professions that require study and proven skills and aptitudes. No offense to anybody. Some slip through the cracks but I just won’t hire anybody under 35 unless they are a veteran.

I'm not sure that makes a difference. One of my buddies is a Navy officer and about 90% of his job is babysitting the enlisted guys on his crew. We both sort of agreed that only the military would put up with these folks -- they'd get their butts fired in the private sector. Can only hope they get their act together as they age. Older vets I know are people you can count on.

With the tight labor force and the fact that most people that want a job already have one, you may get all kinds of applicants these days, no matter the age.

I cannot even get applicants. :confused3:

What line of work are seeking applicants?

We get enough applicants be retention can be an issue...

Seen a lot of people come and go and some come back since 1991.

Some didn't realize there are issues everywhere and others had actually moved away due to a spouse transfer and asked to be rehired when they relocated back.

It is much harder now to hire anyone... corporate says it costs about 5k to process one new hire...

We have been blessed in not really every have a bad apple... and this covers all aspects.

Rona (owned by Lowes up here) now has signs outside of their stores declaring with pride that they are now the sole retailer of Craftsman Tools. Yeah - anyone who cares knows that Craftsman jumped the shark at least 10 years ago. Good luck with that.

In the USA both Lowe's and ACE hardware sell Craftsman.

I doubt that things have changed much at all.
I was a Navy officer 50+ years ago.......similar situation then.
