Mahindra Tractors Quality and Reliability?

/ Mahindra Tractors Quality and Reliability? #41
I bought a new 4110 in 2002. It now has about 1300 hours on it. I have used it to bush hog, pull a pecan harvester, rake hay, clean out thickets, haul dirt to build a road and many other things. The tractor has been run pretty hard but not abused. I keep the oil changed and keep up with the other preventative maintenance. So far so good!

As some of you know from my other posts in this section, i just purchased a new 4110. i had done months of research on Kubota and Mahindra before making my final decision. Resale was not a factor in my decision, as i plan to keep my unit for a minimum of 10 yrs anyway. A lot can happen between now and then as far as my work goes, but as of right now on my out look into the future, i bought a big enough unit to allow me to expand my business. My opinion is when i compared the horsepower and weight of the unit to the orange units, Mahindra was on top. Then when the price is at least $5000 less, it made the decision that much easier.

Maybe this is a dumb question....why buy a new tractor if you are already worried about selling it? the only reason i can think of is out growing the tractor for your needs? if you are that worried about resale, stick with green and orange, but if you want a heavy, hard working tractor, give mahindra a chance. in my area, mahindra is starting to take over. i see more new mahindra's then green and orange units. i might only be 10 hrs into my unit, but i know people that have had them for yrs now with no major problems. my dealer told me mahindra has moved up to the #4 spot as far as over all new sales go. i have no proof, just saying what i was told.

good luck to everyone in the market to buy! Mahindra gets my vote! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Stoner, my 3510 is 1 1/2 years old now, 700 hours. No problems at all. Dug a tank (for people not in South Texas it is called a pond) 100 x 70 x 13 deep, thru 3 ft. top soil, 3 ft. of packed flint rock, 7 ft. of yellow clay. Tough little tractor. Tires are cut up pretty good grinding thru the rocks, but not stopping the tractor. Saved alot buying Mahindra, just as tough as any other tractor out there. Extra weight sure does help. Don't think you could go wrong with one. Not a show tractor , a work tractor. Re-sale? Never crossed my mind at purchase. Not a car or truck, which can wear out. The tractor? Don't see it wearing out. If anything, later on in years, could buy another, maybe, but don't see that happening. Did my research, took 2 years for final decision. Re-sale not on my mind, be like trading in my old dog for a newer, prettier one.

I'm not a Mahindra owner but I tend to believe that the Kubota and JD dealers use the resale argument to their advantage obviously. They definitely have brand recognition and probably better resale but it doesn't appear that Mahindra is in any way lacking in quality or durability when compared to others. When I bought my Cub/Mitsubishi (same line as Mahindra 15 series), a few years ago it was the best I could find for the dollars and the specs to other tractors. I too was worried about the capability but that was more being naive to tractors and not knowing the line as well. Good analogy, it would be like trading in your old dog for a new, prettier one. I could have said wife but you know that would get us all in trouble. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This thread is way off topic of the original question posed, it said nothing about resale or personalities of TBN posters, but hey, since you’re all off topic I’ll add mine.

IMO resale has in some part to do with the dealer network of the brand. Some brands pay more for trade-in and therefore create an artificial high price for used machines. Have a look at how Honda operates, they are the masters at this. You could base a resale value on historical number of hours a given machine is known to last, but that is beyond what most CUT buyers are going to have access to statistically....probably more suited to large commercial equipment. Resale value may have little to do with quality of a machine but more to do with popularity.

Not that my opinion matters on the following subject because people are what they are and no one will change them nor is it worth trying, but I’ll give my opinion anyways......

There are people everywhere who THINK they’re the all knowing center of the universe that one dare not question....and if questioned (even innocently) they turn passive aggressive rather than prove or defend. These types of personalities apparently have some control and insecurity issues. I too believe in facts, yet most of what I see on TBN is opinion. It does not appear isolated, but more a pattern for a few on TBN. I attribute some of it to many of the posters appear to be here for no other purpose than to sell tractors. Look at how many REAL questions are answered here.....VERY FEW. My bet would be many of the “questions answered” are by shills for the dealers and OEM’s. IMO many questions asked and threads created are multiple aliases creating the appearance of a “conversation” where none really exists, in effect answering their own questions with the answers they want seen. The threads “in response” to price checks appear to stand out, the chiming in of “that’s a great price, I’d buy it before it gets away” bla bla bla......and it’s usually on a high or average price. Who else is motivated to post such? From what I see on TBN, the REAL answers to REAL questions come on the threads that are not brand specific.....and answered by real people, not shills. Probably why the push to fill out your profile.......why so important other than alert your local dealer and target your E-Mail account with advertising.

Life is our most valued possession yet it has no resale value.

I read that somewhere.

No....EXPERIENCED.

Been around stock market message boards for nearly 11 years (same crap as here and far worse) and spent plenty of time at auctions watching hucksters buy back their own equipment and/or force up bids. If you’ve spent time at either you would know what I’m saying.
