When they make soft sided doors and windows, what is the material used for the windows that is sewn in?

Sorry to hear that granite counter tops made the car go away.

Any kind of plastic is going to be prone to scratching; but if you go acrylic, find a good plastics supply house as they will have what you want. They won't be as cheap as Home Despot; but getting what you need versus what HD's clueless buyers think you need will make the difference between a successful project and a disappointing one.

Soft side windows are usually a vinyl of some kind.

I am not fastening to the fenders, The 1/2" square tube is the door frame. It will stop against the side of the fender.

car is gone we have granite counter tops now :(

Great job on bending the 1/2" square tubing.

Hate to hear about the car...but granite tops are nice too.

Thanks for the pictures.....Keep posting:D

I'm up in the air about glass/acrylic and what to use. I really want glass, because that will make the cab look better in the long run.
Anyways, I have the doors framed. I am ordering lift off hinges from
McMaster Carr.

Oh, I forgot to mention.......I have bought no materials for this project. I used a squat rack for the cab top, and pieces of metal I had laying around.
I did buy a new bandsaw, The one in the last picture was replaced. I gave that saw to a friend.

Really looks good!

I have seen people making cabs go different ways on the windows.

Some put gaskets in and some have glass glued in.

Nice work:D

thanx,
Where can I buy door lever/latch hardware?

I looked everywhere I could think of. Simple lever latch for the doors.
I'm not sure what they are called. Any ideas?

Nice job your doing there. When I'm looking for hardware like your looking for I either check out a heavy truck parts place or even a RV parts store.

I have spent the winter building my cab too. Here Allegis Corporation is the "Slam Latch" I used. Be sure to order Right and Left. Go to the home page, click on PRODUCTS on the left side and select from all kinds of latches and hanles.
When my cab is complete, I will post the sources for all the hardware, rubber mounts, window and weather trim etc. I found the neatest hinges at Des Moines Iron. They look like a pice of shaft with rounded ends, cut in two and both halves drilled out from one end. One has a brass pin inserted that slips into the other one for the swivel. They both have a ridge running the length of them for welding so they stand off the surface. For $16.00 a pair, I couldn't see anything better. No web site, but they would know what your asking for.

What mjncad said about plastic is exactly right. I used scratch resistant lexan 3/16" thick.

Nice cab!!

You built a cab without sharing your work with us:D

Do you have any pictures of the work in progress???

If not, do you have a list of materials???

That is a nice cab and i have been wanting to build one for a 4300.

That is Sweet!! Would you please put up some more pics, and a list of parts used. We are going to build one for our 1523, but the sides and front and back will be made so it can be removed during the warmer months.

Not gonna hi-jack Knight's thread, just letting him know what I used for latches etc.
I will start one on my project before too long. Have several pics, but am going to get more. Then compile a list of sources, materials, and details including all of my CAD drawings.

Great job Knight! Is comming together fine.

Amazing job on your cab. Windows, etc. Now about that latch, it doesn't show an inside handle, What did you do for that?

Where can I buy door lever/latch hardware?

Knight,

I have tried to do a search on a latch and i don't know if this will help...this is all i can come up with right now.

I know a member that is building a cab and i think he got some latches already...you could PM him and find out.

His user name is...Dirtnut.

Southco - Latches

Knight
Those latches 55A ZN LH Left hand and 55A ZN RH are with inside handles. They do not have locks. I believe you can get them with locks if desired.
For the out side handles I chose the 20062 3/4 Non locking L- Handle Chrome HERE Allegis Corporation shipping invoice that have does not show prices and I don't recall right now how much I gave. I'm sure that both sets were under $100. They don't give prices on their web site. I just called and checked price and stock and ordered them.
Hope this helps.

Thanx, Regal..............

What thickness does the metal have to be for the rubber window gasket to work?
I know safety glass is expensive, What is a ball park for a safety glass windshield?

   / Making a cap w/ pics #40
There are several optons. I used 3275T15 for 3/16" window and 1/6" metal. McMaster-Carr
Door seal and over the hood options here McMaster-Carr
The thing I liked about McMaster is I could by the number of feet I needed, no bulk order.
I am going for a year round cab with heat and a/c. That's the only reason I went with all the rubber stuff. Also thought it might be more quiet if everything was mounted in rubber. Not sure it worked cuz it's still louder inside the cab than one without. Still a ways to go.

Looking forward to seeing yours come together too.
EDIT The lexan I used all came out of a 5ft X 8ft sheet 3/16" thick LEXAN scratch resistant called MR-10. It ran around $266.00 The last cab I built, I just used 1/4" scratch resistant Plexiglas and worked fine. The scratch coating really does make a difference. I had brushed against bushes and limbs that scuffed the paint but not the windows.
