it is most germane to the topic of the thread...i.e., BATTERY CABLES...

If you ask lead/acid battery professionals they will tell you the best method is tinning (solder) the ends that go into closed end connectors then crimping...

Here is an explanation and graphic proof that soldering is indeed the better way to assemble cables...
Granted tractors/ automobiles etc. do not generally employ deep cycle, multi voltage cycle type activity but the same theory applies to standard agricultural or automotive applications...

Again...I had already made my thoughts clear (if you can remember?, it's a fairly short thread)...both in an early post (#8) and within the link I cited before the fact as well as the one following...

Yes, the article is comparing crimped connections versus crimped & soldered connections. So the difference is just the soldering.

Crimp and solder all large gauge DC or battery connectors. My Plato SP-500T solder pot ensures there is NO COLD SOLDER joints.

I'll just add my $.02. I worked/lived on a golf course for a long time. We crimped and soldered all copper battery connections but only crimped larger aluminum connections. We would have preferred to crimp and solder the aluminum but it was just easier to slap on some oxide inhibitor and crimp it. That way we didn't have to worry about someone over heating the aluminum since we had a bunch of teenagers working in the shop. The crimping and soldering held up in the golf carts and other equipment better and we had less cable related issues.
