Max28 and cold Weather

I went back out and fiddled with it. I pulled the connector off the glow plug rail and then put it back on. Checked it with a multi-meter and I was getting 10.5 volts on the rail while the glow plug timer ran. Battery voltage was 12.5, not sure what it was with the glow plugs on, I didn't check. Cycled the plugs three times and then it sputtered to life.
I bet dollars to donuts it's a glow plug issue week plug or plugs

I just noticed this section in the document in the top link you posted, specifically step 1. I usually leave my speed lever at idle or slightly above when trying to cold start:

5.2.1 Engine with glow timer
1. Move the speed control lever to the HIGH
SPEED position.
2. Turn the starter switch key to the ON position
and make sure that the oil pressure, coolant
temperature, and glow plug indicators are lit.
See Table 2 Starting Aid Chart for heating
time.
3. When the glow plug indicator goes off, turn
the key to the START position.
4. Release the key when the engine starts. The
key will return to the ON position when
released.
5. Move the speed control lever to the idling
position.

Now isn't that Special!

If you read Page 41 of the Max28 IOM, it states to put the throttle lever in the low speed position. Max28 manual states also that the GP light will blink for 30 Seconds after start. (Never seen this on my tractor) So much for operating manuals??

I will be pleasantly surprised if Mahindra responds to my Inquiry.

The good new s is that finally I got the O2 Sensors and exhausts back on my 03 Mustang Cobra today after being up on blocks since mid summer.
When I fired it up quite a bit of Dog Kibble and Acorns come blasting out the exhaust. Cat needs to go out to garage more often!

I checked my battery voltage with the glow plugs on, it dropped down to 11.5 then came back up to the usual 12.5 once they timed out. I haven't tried a cold start yet today, I'm going to try the high throttle start here shortly.

My own 2216 was sluggish catching this morning and not that cold out. Sounded like it was running on 1 cylinder until it caught. Decided a check of the glow plug resistance might not be a bad idea (original glow plugs in a 2008 tractor). The nut that held the ring connector on the main wire was snug, but the two nuts that retain the rail that feed the other two glow plugs weren't exactly what I'd call tight. Resistance of the glow plugs was about 0.6 ohms with the meter I had (service manual showed 0.55 ohms), so close enough. No evidence of any arcing on the rail, so don't know if they were making a good connection or not.

Might not be a bad idea to check the nuts on the glow plugs to make sure of tightness.

It took about 5 minutes and a dozen or more GP cycles to get the Max28 Started. It was 13 F. I did not rush it and each crank was less than 5 Sec so as not to beat on the starter. It so happened when it started I had it at full throttle but the motor did not race, no throttle response for a few seconds, but yet it seemed like it was firing on all 3 cylinders.

When I do the fluids I'm going synthetic on all.

i feel for you Mike, that must be so frustrating.... We buy tractors for simplicity and reliability among other things. I for one am not brand loyal so if my Kubota did that and i couldnt fix it, it would go bye bye! Btw i hadnt started my bx in over a month in an unheated garage , 5 seconds of glow started right up. Was 18 degrees. Best of luck and you know i bet you would get a good trade in towards a new bota:))

Below 32 F your GP light should be flashing after start up. Thats why I suspect you have a glow timer or controller issue. I have several MAX units in the area and with this last round of snow and cold no one is calling about not being able to start there tractors.:confused3:

if directed at me - i cannot get it to start to see it flashing related to a statement in the thread i did not read. sorry

It was nice that Mahindra cleared the way for me with a local dealer for service as I did not purchase it there.

I just had a conversation with the service manager.
I was told there was a fuel adjustment at start=up that has been an issue and that occasionally the glow plug resistance are outside of spec.
I'll cart it over to the dealer Saturday if mother nature does not conspire against me.
