metal piece came out of oil pan when changing oil

I am not at all familiar with that part. A mechanic that specialises in the model would tell you. It may not be the first time it has happened to those motors either. Could be an oil anti slosh damper but it still shouldn't have broken like that. It certainly dosen't look like any major engine component anyway.

Hello ,I will probably check with the local case dealership , they still deal parts for the 35 .I can probably get a schematic or actual part number for it . looks like it shouldn't be there at all but it had to come from above. The timing gear is open to fall into the pan as well ,so it might have fallen off from that . IT might be an oiler mechanism .At LEAST it wasn't to hard to take off the oil pan .Glad I did.

Got the oil pan . this is what was in it. the rest of the pieces.

That looks like it would have been part of the oil pan itself...........if I'm not mistaken.

It is, or I should say was, part of the governor assembly, the shape is unmistakable. You will need to remove the timing cover to inspect it. See the images below, where I've included your image for comparison.

I strongly advise that you purchase a shop manual, if you don't already have one. In the mean time, the following diagram should help you understand where various parts are located.
