MMM vs Bush Hog

FN,
Your 2620 has almost double the lifting capacity of my 2350. I can tell you that mine was able to lift the 5 footer off the ground and even carry it around fully suspended without having caused any apparent damage. It made me uncomfortable though and maybe took a few hours off the life of my hydraulics.

I can also tell you that my 17 hp PTO was really only barely sufficient to drive that monster. I did OK in thick grass but there wasn't any headroom. The 2620 appears to have only 2 more hp at the PTO.

Been some good (as always) input as to which size bush hog to hang/use on the back of a BX...I have a BX23 with a 54" MMM...Tractor engines are rated at HP and rear PTO HP...Why do some folks recommend not using a 60" rear bush hog but the tractor will use a 60" MMM all day and night..? I may be opening up a can of worms here, but I gots to know...:)

A general rule of thumb in sizing a Rorary Cutter/Bush Hog to a tractor is to have five (5) PTO horse power for each foot width of the Rotary Cutter.

Another good rule of thumb is constantly repeat to your self is, "Operating a Rotary Cutter is the most dangerous thing I will ever do with my tractor". "Operating a Rotary Cutter.......................

Please explain for a newbie. Why is it important for the bucket to be up high? And what makes bush hogging the most dangerous activity on a tractor?

I think he means that carrying the bucket high is another very dangerous thing to do - load equilibrium, and all that. If you drive around with a heavy load carried high, you face a strong chance of tipping over forwards or sideways, with all that weight up there. And the rotary mower? Heavy blades swinging around offer lots of chances at disaster!

DO NOT have the bucket up high is what I meant...A friend of my brother's, years ago was new to tractoring...Was backing down a winding driveway with the bucket full and raised...Rolled and killed him...Keep the bucket low at all times whenever possible.

OK. I feel a little stupid. With the sequence of posts as they were I just read it the other way and thought there was some trick to mowing with a FEL attached.
