Something almost magical when design/engineering survives the test of time...

Some of the quotes from the time are food for thought.. "Built to last not to sell" is one...

Here are a few more...

If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right.

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

What's right about America is that although we have a mess of problems, we have great capacity - intellect and resources - to do some thing about them.

Quality means doing it right when no one is looking.

When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.

Don't find fault, find a remedy.

Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.

You can't build a reputation on what you are going to do.

Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason why so few engage in it.

If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.

I know some of those quotes.... from a great era.

From a little later:

If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking.

George S. Patton

Oft liked Will Rogers too....

One of the things I love about Leno's Garage, is the engineering details he goes into, on products much older than I....

Downside.... wondering why I can't have __________ today.....

As the greatest generation fades there are often cars available that have been tucked away for decades…

Odds improve if you have someone well versed available to assist in the hunt…

The local chapter of the Model A Club or Restorers Club is a great resource…

If you are looking for a good touring car often the best bet to find one well sorted through club members.

Many show cars are not road proven.

Of course restoring yourself is another option but these days with some luck can find a finished car without having to do all the labor…

I'm old enough (but, probably more importantly, have done plenty enough of my own wrenching) to appreciate the wisdom above ^.

Some "good" roads, Back When....

Ford Model T off roading

More than a few times I've pulled stuck modern iron with my Model A... 40hp pulling 300hp.

Some of the cars around here were hunt vehicles in former life and later rescued where they ran out of gas or had a flat in the mountains decades prior...

While reading this thread I remembered the old Model A frame and miscellaneous body parts, which had been down in back of my parent's house on the tree line for longer than I've been around. Last weekend I was visiting and noticed they are gone, except one rust fender. Hopefully sold or given to somebody who put them to good use, and not for scrap when my father was having the property cleaned up a while back.

Makes sense..... some of those rigs at the bottom of the last link I posted could well have been Bigfoot's GranDad (y)

I keep thinking about how a lot of modern AWD vehicles wouldn't have gotten far on those "roads" 100 years back.....
