I have found the greatest invention since the Tractor. I splurged big time and bought a 17.4" LCD, Flat Panel monitor.
This thing has the biggest, clearest and brightest display.
If any of your are looking for a new monitor and are feeling flush with your $$, I recomend the ViewSonic VA800 LCD.

I can tell it's a good monitor by the clarity of that beautiful 4x10 series JD on the TBN page! Are you going to share the extent of the damage ($) with us?

I bought it at my nearest Best Buy in Concord NH.
It was $799.99 with a $100 rebate, so my eventual cost will be $700. I was planning on getting into the $650 area and when everything about this ViewSonic said YES to me I Figured I could dig a little deeper for the the extra $50.
The monitor will slide up & down for height, as well as pivot in all directions and it also has the availability to rotate clockwise into the Portrait mode. There is also software to install, so that when you rotate the monitor, you can also change the position of whatever it is that your viewing on your monitor. Web page, spread sheet, word doc. etc.
I only bought it yesterday afternoon and I am extremely pleased with it. I highly reccomend it to anyone.

This picture shows my normal / usual, everyday Windows desktop. I tend to change the background picture from time to time.
Just a beautiful crisp, clear picture.

What kind of resolution will it handle and what resolution do you in fact use?

Got a 21" at work and run it something like 1200 or 1400 (don't recall) but fit a bunch onto it and STILL would like more room. I'll look tomorrow.

Looks like a SWEET piece of "glass???" /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Mark, I got a Samsung 17" LCD a couple of months ago to replace a 17" tube monitor and I agree 100%. Better picture, light weight, lower power consumption, less heat, smaller footprint, powers up faster after going into sleep mode, etc.. I'll never go back to a CRT. The only thing I have to remember is to keep from touching the screen and to clean the fingerprints off it when I do touch it, per the owners manual. I had to place Post It notes on the plastic surrounding the screen to remind the kids and wife to not touch the screen.

Richard,
It is capable of 1280 x 1024
I presently have it set for 1024 x 768
I found that the 1280 x 1024 made everything just to darn small to read with thes middle age eyes.

Mike,
Do a little research and see if Samsung makes a protective screen to fit your monitor. I found "by accident" that ViewSonic makes a doodad / screen that is supposed to snap right into place w/ no tools recuired. and it protects the screen surface from just the things you mentioned
This is a link that will show you the screen protector from Viewsonic.
