Oops, wrong bees.

No need for a cab on their account. All the "Killer Bee's" that he is referring to are retired, heck one is even in the Hall of Fame. I'm sure they still cause some retired pitches nightmares.

"It's interesting how many people are talking about Texas and other states NOT INCLUDED in the three the OP listed. Do people read these threads BEFORE responding?"

Well since Texas border Louisiana and Arkansas, climate and culture are going to be very similar. Laws may vary but I would bet all the money I have that the weather, snakes, and bugs in Texarkana TX are going to be pretty much the same as in Texarkana AR. Same thing if I go west out of Shreveport LA, the weather will be pretty much the same in 10-15 minutes when I cross the state line into East Texas.

I'm with you...we have two issues; Yankees and three Southern states. I may be from Oklahoma, but I have spent time in Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, South Carolina; not to mention NYC, Chicago, Iowa, Lived in Missouri etc. I may not be well acquainted with any Cajuns or Maw and Paw Kettles, but I do feel qualified to at least comment in an effective way.

I have heard it put like this: "Why is a Yankee like a hemorrhoid?" Answer: They're a pain in the arse when they come down, but it's a relief when they go back up".

I'll try some fried Okra, and raise you a plate of fried Zuccinni..... I have met those NYC and Boston people who are rather harsh, However, I've also had about twenty of them come down to the parking lot in a nearby camp ground and help me un-jackknife my camper then feed me beer all weekend!

Wasn't sure whether I was going to get a arse whuppin or the guest of honor. I guess I was the guest of honor. Great people.

I love fried Zucchini, fried egg plant too! We usually plant some every year. If it survives the squash bugs, you have plenty for the neighbors.

Love it! Now we need a Jeff Foxworthy equivalent to bring all the dam Yankee jokes into a collection.

What is the difference between a Yankee and a dam# Yankee? A Yankee is someone form up north. A Dam% Yankee is someone from up north who comes down South but won't go back home.
If you love Southern humor, you should check out any of the writings of Lewis Grizzard (now deceased humor columnist of the Atlanta Journal). He certainly puts a very Southern spin on all his stories. People from the South will get a kick out of it, Yankees will just read it and have a very puzzled look on their face.

There are no, or very few chiggers where I'm at. We have some ticks, but I've been places where they where a lot worse. Most years I never encounter a tick at all. From what I've been told, there used to be a lot of ticks and the chiggers where horrible, but when the fire ants took over, all that changed. I can't prove any of this, but I've heard it from so many people that have lived here forever that it might be what's happened.

I hate fire ants, but after awhile, I've learned to respect them and avoid them. The war will never end with them, but given the choice of chiggers or fire ants, I'll take the ants.

I really wonder if fire ants took out the chiggers and tick in FLA. When my dad was a kid, the state and ranchers had a campaign to go after ticks. The would dig a trench in the ground, which would fill with water due to the high ground water, they would throw tick killing chemicals into the water and the drive called through the trench to apply the tick killer. No ticks after that program. But if you did not do this often, some ticks would survive and in not time they would be back. I really wonder if the fire ants have impacted ticks and chiggers.

Having said that, we have fire ants in our yard and we still have ticks and chiggers. Maybe we just don't have ENOUGH fire ants. :confused3::shocked::laughing::laughing::laughing: I will take fire ants over ticks and chiggers any day since I can see the fire ant mounds. That says a lot because I hate fire ants but they really are "better" than ticks or chiggers.

Later,
Dan

We don't have the fire ants here (yet as far as I know), but we sure have both ticks an chiggers. You just have to put on your deet any time you are out in the grass or brush.
