Mow septic field or not

/ Mow septic field or not #21
I hadn't considered this issue; I'll admit I've actually been using mine as a food plot. Plow it (the leaching field pipes are over 2 feet deep) and plant annual crops 2X year. Maybe just lucky so far, as no issues in the four years I've had it.

Mow it. That pipe is a lot harder to crush than most people think. I suspect what your installer was meaning was keep heavy mowers off of it until everything had time to settle. As someone here already mentioned, clay packs itself over a short period of time. Mow it and dont worry about it.

Compacting the soil OVER the leach field shouldn't be a problem. You don't want to compact the gravel under or around the pipes, nor break or bend the pipes.
Personally, I stay off my leach field with my CT230; and mow it with a push mower.

We have run over ours with everything from the kids bikes to the L3830 pulling a baler and a wagon load of hay... Not a whole lot of choice due to its location (right in the only path from the hayfield to the barn).
