Glock and only a few smaller manufactuers make a 10mm auto loader now a days. Pretty sure I saw one on a 1911 style pistol.

This is one I bought many years ago and never shot. I bought it for an investment back then and only hope the value has gone up. Here is the Colt I bought then 10mm Handguns: A to R Yes, I went with the "ultimate bright stainless" of the Delta Elite hoping it would be nice and shiny and grab more attention and be worth more money. I guess only time will tell if I was right, or if I'm just part opossum and am attracted to things that shine.

Heres my current thought. I get a glock 29 10 mm. It will have plenty of power, and it will be concealable. I can also get a .40 S&W barrel to use for target shooting, teaching my wife to shoot. I am now also thinking about getting a 20 ga shotgun to teach my wife to shoot on and to have as a backup hunting gun. Where I am going to find the money for all this I am not sure, but I figure I get the glock 29 now, and then the barrel and second shotgun can come later.

Thoughts?

I think that is a good idea.

The problem with the 10mm is that finding ammo is harder than .40/9mm/.45 etc. And it seems to be more money when you find the 10mm ammo. The .40 barrel solves both problems. :D

Later,
Dan

I say get a Witness P Carry in 10mm and then a 22 or something for your wife. My wife went on a retreat with some other gals a few years ago and did well at target practice. She just had to have a 22 after that, so I got her one for a birthday or something. I have a 20 gauge Winchester Model 1300 that I absolutely love. I believe a lady might become fatigued rather quickly with even a 20 gauge, though. I could be wrong.

If you want to talk more about your handgun desires, come join us over at Right To Keep and Bear Arms Forum. That site was started here in SE Michigan. In fact, we're having a little "get together" at the Birch Run gun show in a couple weeks. Great bunch of guys with helpful advice, without any of the bravado you might find at other gun sites.

Here is one of my favorite carry pistols and it happens to be a Glock 29. I turned the lighting down and the flash off to show the sights as well. I highly recommend the TruGlo sights not only for after dark but even in full light. These are the easiest sights for me to see out of all the sights I have on any firearm.

Oh, I almost forgot. You can see my faster sighting system in the 3rd picture (please pardon my poor photography skills), which is a LaserMax internal laser I have in this pistol as well.

Dargo,
How do you find the recoil to be? And how much does an internal laser sight cost? Glad to hear it is one of your favorites.

The recoil really isn't that bad at all. It has a bit of a snap to it, as you'd expect, but nothing brutal by any means. That darn internal laser was around $300. I think that is a bit expensive, but I like it being completely internal where it won't be in the way nor likely to get knocked off. I'm sure many other laser sights are very good. I just like that type for the reasons I mentioned.

If money is an issue, having a .40 caliber conversion kit isn't likely the most economical solution, from an ammunition perspective.

There are many guns available with .22 kits or even 9mm barrels to put in.

9mm is up to $20 per hundred right now. I'm not sure where 40 is, but I guarantee it's a good bit more.

Online I can find 9mm for a bit over $10 for 50 rounds, 40 S&W is about $15 for 50 rounds, 10mm is about $20-25. So 40 cal saves me some money over 10mm but still has good stoping power. If I end up becoming an range junky I will probably have to look at a 9mm or .22 like you suggested so I can save some money.

But I like the idea of having some power so if I want to hunt with it I can, and if needed to use it on a two legged target, God forbid, it would put them down.

Now I just need to find a nice used glock 29, they don't seem to be very common. The only place I called that had them were new at $530. I will keep looking.

Well, if you're anywhere near Flint and want to do any target shooting, there's a new range on Center Rd. Down near 75&14 there's Double Action, if you want to see what they have available to rent.

Guns are a lot like cars in that everyone has their favorite, be it S&W, Glock, Sig, CZ or some version of a 1911.

budsgunshop and gunbroker.com are good resources to get an idea of prices.

My own preference is for a gun to have a safety, so I find myself overlooking Glocks for that reason and others. (Don't base your selection on what I like, though.) Having an interest in getting a 10mm for myself, I'm leaning toward a Witness in fullsize steel for 390 or the polymer carry version for 450. There's also a 10mm "match" that is a bit large for carry but is an excellent shooter. ($500, though)
