Don't know if you have to or not, but if it was me, I'd tape that seam.
I was checking out those 2 photos and a lot is the same except you sure cleaned out some of the brush on the right. What is that structure past the barn, behind it? You can see it better behind that Ford tractor in the before picture.

Rob,
I will tape the seam. The neighbor backed a trailer home up near the fence. Sure wish they would get rid of it.

Eddie,
Thanks!
hugs, Brandi

My center floor of my barn will be 20x30 feet of concrete. I will be having friends over to help pour the concrete, as I found a few companies in the area that will deliver on Saturday. Thanks for the suggestion, Wroughtn_harv! In high school I worked for the school district part time, as part of my Ag Co-op classes. We poured a lot of new sidewalks during the summer. So I know the narrowier the pour, the easier. So should I divide my 20 feet into two ten foot sections seperated by a divider board, so only to strike off a ten foot wide section instead of striking off 20 feet? To strike off 20 feet, you need at least 22 foot long striker board. I am think you would need 22 foot 2x4s nailed together as a "T"..........and that this "T" would still sag and bow while striking off the concrete. What do you think?

If it were me, I would have one pour and I would want the concrete to slope to the center, then out the door for water runoff when washing.

Brandi,

Your thinking is sound, but it's not done that way. When you pour an area larger then you have lumber to scree if flat, you us stakes.

Plan on using a 12 foot scree board that's perfectly straight. 2x4 or 2x6, it doesn't matter.

Set your forms to the size you want. Have your rebar in place and then figure out where your ten foot sections are. Pound in a stake there so that it's perfectly level with your forms. You will use this stake to rest your scree board on while draging the other end on your forms.

When you have the concrete poured and level, you can either pound the stake into the ground, or pull it out. I've seen it done both ways and don'r really know if one is better then the other. I've also seen rebar and wood used for this, so either is fairly common.

If you are doing a pour that's this big, be sure to have lots of help. Concrete pullers are much, much better then using a rake or a shovel for moving the mud around. Rent a power finisher. Don't try to smooth it by hand. LOL

Have fun,
Eddie

After almost a year of not working on the barn:( to allow my finger, hand and elbow to heal from surgery:eek:, I started installing the siding and door rails.:) I took a week off to go to the World Ag. Expo in Tulare, CA., but instead I stayed home to work on the barn. Here are the latest photos. The first one shows the 24 feet of door rails installed. The 2nd photo shows my invaluable Big RED Beast help mate and elevator/work platform. The 3rd photo shows all the siding minus the trim on the front side of the barn. The 4th and 5th photos show the back door header being raised (for the canopy) so I can drive the Mahindra all the way thru. It will be doubled up 2x8s for the 20 feet of sliding door rail.
hugs, Brandi

Brandi,

Good to hear your back to working on your barn!!!!!!! It's looking awesome and will only get better with all that siding on it.

I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures and following your progress.

Nice looking barn Brandi.
I do have one question though. What ever happened to the old Ford 3055?
