My War on Poison Ivy

/ My War on Poison Ivy #51
One of the JOYS of Ohio and our woods is we have ALL 3 varieties of nasty stuff. Myself and my older brother are rather familiar with it and pretty much 99% immune to it. back 15 yrs ago we went looking for some property, & walked thru a field in 90+ heat waste high in P.I. He had jeans on and I had shorts with short socks on. I got one spot on my ankle & one under my watch band & he had very thin white tee shirt on & got one under his watch band almost identical to mine. My nephew was with us, & got covered in P.I. & I felt sorry for him. He still gets it but not as bad as he did then, he and I were cutting dead elm in my woods & he was pulling dead vines off the top. yep he got some up his arm... It been 10+ years since I had any, got some up the forearm when i cut & rolled up MATS of the stuff off neighbors patio it was July and hot, I rolled it up and put it into my truck and dumped at my farm to be burnt later. One of the rolls when shoving into the truck the cut end raked up my arm it was wet with juice & broke skin leaving me extra exposed. yep I got about 6 bumps right on the scabs, not sure which itched more the healing scabs or the P.I. :/

Mark- ya posted if it wernt for the PI, Multi-flora Rose and Thorn Bushes your place would be grass. Mine is about the same but sub in Blackberry over thorns :)p been eating them for a few days now so OK with them over Thorns/locust lol... Though I have some nice woods too ;) I've cut a LOT of large vines usually just hack em with machete & let dry. P.I vines like that are pretty self supporting on the side of tree where as Grapes climb into canopy and hang putting lots of stress into top of tree branches causing damage to trees.

found this pic somewhere & think it is a good one to keep handy for most people.

That does not look like my poison oak leaf. Mine does not have the notches in it but it is poison oak. I can tell - if you know what I mean!

I burn the stuff when the wind is blowing towards my neighbors farm so it doesn't affect my family

Oh yeah, I totally believe you, troublemaker.

Still got the P.I. market cornered here Mark. Multiflora Rose and some Blackberry too. Every thing is wet now though. Farming buddy gave me some Crossbow to use on the Rose bushes, still haven't use it, they are so darn pretty in the spring.

You're kind of a jerk, aren't you?

I hope you accidently wipe your butt with the stuff, while you're squatting in the woods:laughing:

That's good thinking noods. You must protect your family from the smoke. Some smoke is good for you, like my medicine. But poison oak smoke not so good. Does your neighbor irritate you like mine does? I burn it real close to the property line
