ok.. had some time between day job and night job so decided what better way to squander it than shooting some primer on the chassie.

before all the flames start coming in, I left the wheels on as those are gonna be coming off for extensive prep and refurb over the winter. front tires are junk.. front rims are solid but have some bent edges I want to hammer out.. then they look like they will be decent front rims. as you know the rear power adjust rims are solid.. literally.. not a spec of rust.. but some goober has permanently ruined them by welding them up. the left rim is a total loss as far as adjustment goes. disc is welded tot he groves on both sides at each set, keepers are welde dup front and back, then someone laid a strip of metal and welded it to the disc and tot he rim, ALL THE WAY around. that rim is just gonna have to stay like that. would take way too much work to get it moving again. other rim is als in good / non rusty condition.. it is dished out and adjusted differently than the other rim, and also welde din place.. howeder it looks like I can make 8 cuts with the torch and free it up.. so that rim will get broke down this winter and I will get it free'd up, and probably adjust it like the other rim to match. once that is done, fronts and rears will be cleaned and paitned and put back on the 950. untill then I scored a cheap set of 6-16 and 11.2-28's of a salvaged 8n on craigslist for a good price, so will swap in that rubber so I can play with the tractor while taking my time on the other rims.. she'll set a lil low.. but not bad.... still probably way higher than a ag model.. :)

the hood that came with this tractor ( that I didn't use ) had had a stripper applied to it.. it discolored and coroded the metal, took 90% of the paint off.. doglegs were similar. mared the aluminum too. in the end.. it was just as much work to get it to clean metal as it was the donor hood I bought.

i was told that if u forgot the stripease on there for to long it would be harder to get the paint off thats why i haven't tried any

could be.. I prefer the 3m black pads to just about anything. kind of like an abrasive wheel. give it enough time and there's not much it won't cut!

flap wheels work good but wear out fast. those 3m black pads you can use them till they wear down to the hub. I get about 1 hr of solid grinding out of each black pad till it is exhausted. ( and so am I !! )

Those wire cups work wonders when you're trying to strip metal on all those inside bends and curved metal. I worked on my 860 sheet metal and quickly developed a preference for the wire wheel and wire cup on my die grinder. I did some sandblasting, too. I'll have to find those 3m pads next time... I'm not particularly fond of sandblasting either.

had plenty of farm chores this am.. had the farrier come out for the horses at the crack of dawn..then had to fix some broken feeders and auto-float waterers.. but did manage time to power wash the spare set of front and rear rims, and get them ready for primer. actually primered 1 whole front rim.. :)

shot color onto the chassie, cleaned up and am now heading to work.

and yes.. those tires and rims on the tractor are not the ones that will be going on it.. those are coming off for restoration during the winter.. I have a spare set of front and rear rims/tires for the tractor.

I will still need to paint the air cleaner and repaint the hubs when I pull the old rubber off.

Where do you buy your paint??? I have a Farmall 140 that I want to "restore" this winter and I bought the enamel at TSC. I know, it's not as good as automotive paint, but I'm not going to spend $500.00 to paint a tractor that I'm going to use. If it were a trailer queen then maybe.
