On my DK45 i can turn the pto shaft by hand with the tractor off. You can also add an overrunning clutch (which i use on my rototiller and mower dur to shafts being too short) . This allows for real east freewheeling of pto.

A good overruning clutch had a hand detente to keep it attached and is easily removable. I didnt want the kind that perminantly attach.

Ag supply among many places. But David don't forget that it adds about 4 or 5 inches to your PTO length, which means unless you PTO shaft on the grinder was cut a little short to begin with you may have to recut the the shaft to keep it from bottoming out and possibly damaging your PTO. When you grinder is raised on the 3pt is when the the shaft is usually shortest, check to see how much more the shaft can be collapsed. They can be easily cut, but you cannot lengthen them. Here is one link. I would try to find out if your PTO shaft can be turned at all by hand with the tractor off, or if the brake is going to hold it, or can the grinder be turned with a simple prybar like a long screwdriver run thru the yoke before I invested in an overrunning clutch and cut the shaft.

I got mine at BigR supply.. but any ag store carries them. I actually needed to add mine as my existing PTO shafts were too SHORT on the new DK45. They had all been cut to fit my old JD870, and were too short by a few inches to fit the new tractor. So instead of replacing all the driveshafts, i simply added this and everything works great.

but heed what the others said about shortening up the drive shafts too much. This lengthens the PTO spline by 6". In my case i didnt have to cut anything

Turn the tractor off.

If you have someone else in the driver's area with a running tractor while you're trying to hook up to the PTO, you're an obituary begging to be written.

I'd much rather have you sassing me out here for the next 10 years than to see a notice of death for you tomorrow.

That said, you could try slipping a foot long, 1/4 inch rod through the u-joint and turn the attachment shaft to line up the splines. Use a smooth piece of rod stock, not rebar, since rebar has ridges and can scrape things up.

I always try to get into habit of changing pto selection opposite of what I am hooking up for a much easier hookup, with a added plus adding a safety margin. Does your kioti do the same?

With my tractor, I have a pto selector to go from rear, mid and rear and mid only. I find that when changing to mid pto, I can spin the rear pto shaft freely, doesnt matter if engine is on or off. I always try to get into habit of changing pto selection opposite of what I am hooking up for a much easier hookup, with a added plus adding a safety margin. Does your kioti do the same?

I do not have a mid PTO, so I do not have that switch.

I am HOPING that what I am hearing is with the Tractor off I can turn the PTO shaft.

David if you do wind up buying an overrunning clutch. be careful of what you buy, as many are not just over running clutches but adaptors to different spline sizes.. you need 1 3/8 6 spline on both the male and female ends.
