I looked at the new Ranger and can't understand why the MPG ratings are less than an F150... after reading the reviews it appears that it lags behind the full sized trucks even more than the claimed numbers. The good reviews of Fords Eco boost is why we're getting the new Ranger.
How often do you plan to haul it? Almost any truck based vehicle would handle that without a problem. What would be the MINIMUM truck needed to haul 3K (Lil Blue on a 6x10 or 12 trailer)?. No chance of new, 80s/90s is fine, brand and appearance/fluff unimportant, reliability is.
My 2004 Ranger is rated to tow up to 7K when properly set up. Considering how much thinner the frame is now than when it was new, I wouldn't dare attempt it. (Not that I would have when it was new, either.I壇 hate to tow 3k behind a ranger although it would possibly work. A 1500 would be a lot better. IMO the 99-2005 Silverados are the best America made truck ever built.

It also depends on how often, how far, and how good of a driver you are. If somebody didn't need the heavier vehicles that you have, but wanted to bring their tractor to the lake once a year to pull the dock out, a lighter, properly equipped vehicle could be the proper tool for the job.“Up to” and “when properly setup” are the key words there. If I needed to tow 7k I’d leave my suburban in the driveway and take my 1 ton. Sure the half ton will do it but my one ton beats the crap out of the transmission capabilities, stopping capability, anti swaying capabilities, and all around handles the load much better.
I drive a Silverado extended cab and 6 foot bed for work, and a 2004 Ranger for my own truck which is much easier to get around with both in town and off road. Yet it rides like an 8N Ford, gets worse mileage than the full sized Chevy, has much less space both in the cab and in the bed; and costs just as much for each repair.I drive a Tacoma with a 6ft bed with the club cab type (not a 4 door) and think it stinks to drive in town. Just too long. We do not want a 150 to drive around.....
...The trouble with driving a truck is any Urban place you go, more and more the parking spots are made for Civics and V-Dubs!
