Need / want a pickup truck

Having only one vehicle, the suv/trailer thing got old fast on the acreage. Going to the city for multiple errands, trailer in tow seemed like a great idea until one gets to the not so friendly parking lots. Went back to a pick-up, super cab with a 6 1/2 ft box. Groceries fit inside, other stuff in the box, roll up cover keeps chit dry. Big stuff, roll up the cover and good to go. Mileage of course is not as good as the Subie, nor is the winter traction, even though my truck is 4x4.

I was thinking the same thing. Why the rush to talk him into something much different from what he's looking for? THEN I remembered where we are. The mindset here requires us to help someone decide to get an M Series as soon as they ask which BX they should consider :)

3/4 tons being overkill? How’s this? IMG_6969.JPG

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the comments even the ones some say are slightly off topic . I should have added at the beginning that the suv we have is a Porsche Cayenne diesel . Great vehicle and tows up to 7700 lbs. however as one said I need to remember to hook up the trailer or come back and do it if I find something large to bring home and loading garden stuff inside makes a mess. The Cayenne on the other hand has 96000 trouble free miles
, is still under factory warranty and gets fantastic mileage (25 in town, 34 plus on the road and 19 when towing a 23 ft enclosed trailer with a sports car in it at 70) my wife is not on board for trading so I have a sell job ahead

I would suggest getting either the Ford F250 or 350 single rear wheel with the 6.2 gas engine. Real world driving it gets about the same economy (sorta sucks) as the 3.5 ecoboost and is a much simpler motor that should give you 250K miles of life if you keep the oil changed in it. The brakes and frames are heavier, and there is no substitute for a bigger truck if you need it. I have the F350 DRW and pull a 20K trailer with mulch or compost at least once a week and am amazed at how well it does. Had a Ram last time and while the Cummins is a great engine, the plastic bits of the truck were coming apart at 4 years and 90K miles.

problem with a SRW 3/4 ton or one ton is the ride terrible and fuel is going to be conistently 4-6mpg less under normal conditions they arent about the same. Most half tons I have gotten get about 17 and if I didnt drive them on rails probably a little more. Most 3/4ton gassers are in the 10-12 range for gas, that adds up over 15k miles a year. Beyond a payload there isnt a huge diff in a 3/4 ton gasser and a half ton.

I regularly haul 15-16k with an F-350 dually, 6.2L gasoline engine. Until you get to close to 20k pounds or tow a lot, the diesel is just bad math.

350 dually i beleive it, SRW 250 your not doing that and maybe not with a 350 gasser srw. Your right on the diesel, math simply doesnt work out most of the time.

have to take these things with a grain of salt. Look at the numbers and go from there, a lot of interjection that simply isnt true. I see more diesel trucks on the road hauling wheel barrows in the back vs anything subtance not really a good way to spend money

Which begs the question, will your wife be riding with you at any time? Driving it? and how much of a budget did she give you to work with?

Keep the Porsche and buy and used truck. Best of both worlds.
