Need / want a pickup truck

I hate the "push button" 4wd actuators used in trucks now. My friends Dodge failed twice. My 04 Tundra still had a manual shift knob for engaging 4wd and low range but I believe all Tundras and even Tacomas now have push button. Which brings up another point; why no low range in 2wd? There are a number of instances it would be useful.

On the Rams there is a simple and inexpensive way to get 2WD Low. It's an adapter that allows transfer case to switch to low range but the electronic front axle lock (4WD) to remain off. I guess this is one of the benefit of electronically actuated components (your 'push buttons')... easy to mod them.

Good to know, Rob.

It took me a long time to remember to watch to see if my GMC is in 2W or 4W. There is no friggin light on the dash to tell you. Give me the old lever on the floor any day instead of all this complicated/expensive CRAP!

When was driving a truck I would buy the "XL" or "work truck" to avoid the fancy switches.. I liked the vinyl floor as well, hose it out..

Is that for Xtra Looser? I always try and think of names for the trim levels. SE = Sucker Eddition, LE = Looser Eddition and so forth. lol

Just classifications for trim levels..

I can get 2wd low side in my Super Duty. :)

It uses a knob on the dash and I've never had a bit of trouble with it. 19yrs old and 260K miles.

Many, many years ago I used to get a ride to work with a Hindu Engineer. He used to scoff at the markings on the rear of our Vehicles, and I never forgot that. How a couple of Plastic, chrome plated letters mean so much to us.

My 01 F150 has the floor lever. So far it hasn't failed to drag the tractor out of the mud in 4 low. It's just getting broken in - only has 190K on it. My last pickup was a 2000 Ford and it is still going strong at 275K (it is 2wd and I gave it to Dad when he got to the point he couldn't climb up into his 4WD).

Probably there wrong forum but here goes. I'm starting to look for a pick up as the more chores/ projects, the more I get frustrated loading things in the SUV and or having to hook up my utility trailer to carry the needed stuff. Looking primarily at a FORD F 150 with the 5.0 engine etc. Only reason I'm not hot on a Chevy is that they took government money to produce products that were not competitive in the marketplace.

So the question to those more knowledgeable FORD F 150 or Chevy Silverado both 1/2 ton and I don't need a super cab. On the FORD side looking at the 5.0 engine vice the 3.5 Eco boost. Two wheel drive and some creature comforts like bucket seats, towing package etc. Interested in others comments on either good or bad .

Either engine will serve you well. The EcoBoost pulls very strong - even the 2.7 version. You will find it difficult to find a truck that is not either a supercab or crew cab. There are very few B-cabs sold these days. Usually it is only the fleet buyers that buy regular cabs. The good news is that all the full size trucks on the market are good trucks. Ram has the best interior by far and is usually very price competitive. Ford, of course, remains king of the hill. The Tundra and Titan both drink a bit more fuel, but you won't break them. You can probably get a good deal on a Titan if you don't mind some of the creature comforts being a bit behind the market. Almost all the Tundras built are crew cabs that are either loaded or loaded to the hilt. Bring a heavy checkbook if you want one of those.
