Neighbor attacked by Pit Bulls

Undoubtedly there is more than one breed of dog that can attack and maim people. Don't the police often use German Shepherds?

However, with the police dogs, both the dog and handler typically have very good training.

In this case, the dogs were out of the owner's control, and they let the two dogs out to do pack-hunting. Most of the problems with the Pit Bulls (and related breeds) is that the owners have no formal training, and no control over their dogs.

I have been following this thread and see a lot posted that is just personal feeling not fact. I am sure if you were accused of some wrong you would like your day in court before being hung.

Now I just have to ask, where did you get the information
they let the two dogs out to do pack-hunting.
Maybe I missed it, if so then I apologize. If not then I guess it is you that owes the apology.

Cheers :drink:

Sad, but in my neck of the woods your statement should read "Most of the porblems with dogs..."

We found a black lab on our property. Litterally followed me home. No tags, and not neutered. Put up a sign for him the next day. Owners lived a couple of miles down the street. Dog finally got a collar, but still not neutered and you will still find him, along with about 10 other dogs "roaming". Then you have my one neighbor down the road who has a pointer mix that stays in a 10"x10" fence 24/7. I understand having a working dog on a farm

In North Carolina, over 260,000 dogs and cats are put down in shelters EVERY year. That's only one state.

Update:

Been two months since the attack here is what has happened.

Dog owners: The owners were issued five citations relative to leash laws, licenses, and rabies vaccines. Don't know the court date yet but have asked to be notified when it will be scheduled. They have since moved from the house they were renting.

Neighbor: He is recovering and has been receiving hyperbaric chamber treatments to help close the wounds in his legs. Seems that one will require a major skin graft. He is scheduled for more surgery in a few weeks. He is up and walking, driving and armed! Understandably he is not fond of any dogs.

If that was my household dogs would be put down..If any of my digs draw blood or attack for any reason they will be destroyed..I will not have a vicious animal in my house..

Ditto that! Not only run the risk of injury/death of another person but also considerable financial liability.

Last week, a lady in Raleigh was walking her dog, when they were attacked by a Foxhound and pit bill mix. Her dog was badly injured but will be ok. The story, as usual, is poorly written. The woman says she, and I assume her dog, were being pulled into the woods by the attacking dogs. Again, I assume, she was holding onto the leash and the attacking dogs were dragging both her and her dog into the woods. The article says she was being dragged on her belly but there is no mention of the women being wounded.

The lady was screaming for help and a neighbor and a tree service employee ran to help her. The tree service guy grabbed a shovel and was able to beat off the attacking dogs. If these two people had not helped, it sounds like the ladies dog would have been torn to pieces while she held on to the leash. Who knows what the attacking dogs would have done to the lady.

The dogs owner admits to letting the dogs out to go to the bathroom and then he go distracted. Distracted my fanny, he just lets the dogs run loose. Its not clear how many dogs they guy has, you would think the reporter would ask the obvious questions. The owner said one of the dogs in the attack had been in "scuffles" with other dogs he owns.

He has been charged twice with creating a nuisance which carry a $200 fine.

Later,
Dan
