Neighbor got robbed...time for a security system

I like the guard geese idea a lot. I have also been worked over by guard geese. They don't joke around. But if you live in a rural area like I do, free ranging geese would last maybe a week until the coyotes/ bobcats got them.
I had the white domestic ducks in my pond. We raised them indoor and/or in a protected area until they were full grown.. We then put them on our pond. It only took three weeks for them to be gone...

A 'Beware of Dog' sign goes a long way to convincing most people from entering a driveway like yours. We have one and had one on our previous property that had a driveway similar length to yours. Now we also have dogs (5 currently) and have not had any issues. We also have an alarm system on landline and backup cell if necessary. From what I know of most people, a sign stating there are dogs works the majority of time. These people who break-in do not want to deal with a dog barking or biting them. The former attracts attention and the latter speaks for itself.

Something like this ought to take care of the problem. Cantilever gate with opener, telephone access control, CCTV and IR illuminator.

Had a situation like yours a couple of years ago. They caught the SOB who robbed our neighbor because had turned his truck around in front of our gate. Got nice pictures of him, his truck, and the stolen merchandise in the bed.

This is exactly what I was picturing. What does the telephone access control do? Also, what kind of opener are you using?

We were robbed a few years ago and I am pretty sure we know who was behind it, but we can't prove it. We went with an ADT system. Although we have a land line telephone I think you can work around that. We also have the garage, shop, and hangar tied into the system. It has activated a couple of times by a bird in the hangar, and the response by the police has been great! We also have a good couple of neighbors that keep an eye on the place. We travel quite a bit and it does offer peace of mind. You will need someone that can come and reactivate the system if you are away and the alarm activates as ADT will turn it off if it is a false alarm. We have been pleased with it after working out the glitches and logistic issues.

I hate a thief. My home place is completly fenced ... one set of gates is locked with chain and padlock. The main entrance is secured with a automatic gate and entry key pad.

This pretty well eliminates the BS ... I have 2 dogs that alert me. Other things I have considered ...if things get bad.

Geese, camera, signs... one sign I liked on a gate I saw "To make entry to this property dial 911 Then they will be here when you need them"

We have had a rash of break-ins and burglaries in our area too due to the low number of officers avaliable. Fortunatally, they have mainly been targeting stuff out front of peoples houses and houses that sit closer to the road.

I live farther off the road and have two dogs that like to bark alot:thumbsup:

I sent you a PM

I have the lorex wireless system, 7' tall gates and a dozen angry geese that are trained to attack everyone except me...I even have to send in my utility readings after they chased off the summer help.

How do you like the lorex system? That seems to be one of the most popular ones around. Does it run on a motion sensor or is it on all of the time? That one runs on a battery, right?

As others have noted, although not for everyone - dogs are hard to beat. Several of my neighbors have been broken into - a couple with security systems. Two Labradors have the run of my home and it has been untouched - at least so far...

The one I have runs on 110. It can be set to constant or motion activate, has night vision and two way audio, audio is also recorded with video.
