Sigrams From a very expensive experience you are correct.
We live in a rural area. Started to have cattle going through fences and staying in the corral . and one morning had loaded trailer behind tractor with fence material . and saw a yearling calf dead and mutilid with 2 reddish boxer dogs gut full leaving the calif . called owner about this and explained had never seen these doge before.

When he arrived .sat in his pickup explained never had seen these dogs before. and he remembered 2 new dogs at a location 1/2 mile from our place. rode with him and said yes they were the dogs. He went to door and lady said they were not her dogs but had been left by some one picked up for drugs and was in jail.

The calf owner shot at the male dog which left the area with the female. I never left the pickup.
He was charged with enough charges only a lawyer could explain. the trail and fines came to 650 dollar for shooting at a dog and his lawyer charged about the same fee.
I was charges with accessory by pointing out had seen the same dogs leaving the dead calf. it cost me trial and legal fees for lawyer.
even though was not charged by Judge of committing any wrong. the atty. wanted me to take anger management classes.
All this only to say any dog that comes on this place gets a pan of water and if hungry a meal. if has a collar with phone call will call to let owner where the dog is.

People who say there is a stand your ground law are fooling them selves into a legal wrangle only the legal system benefits

I'm not a criminal lawyer, but there is something very strange going on here. Guy who did the shooting must have been on someone else's property, someone (who?) had to report and testify against him...and I'm wondering what he was charged with? Shooting at a feral, stock killing dog in the country? That's illegal? Did the owner step up? Lots of questions.

You're welcome, although I'm not certain what good it's going to do as I'm not the first per this thread to make the same type of comment and yet you've still gone agains't some sound advice even though you have two degrees and 10 decades in the military:thumbsup:

I am not looking to fight with you, I have seen the multiple warnings and completely disagree. I am on VERY solid ground with this in my area. I have spoken with the Deputy, my vets, who are large animal vets, at least a dozen neighbors, many of whom have lost Chickens, Goats, etc, and are not going to just let this continue.

If these dogs are NOT just strays, which may very well be the case, I WANT the owners to be aware of the damage their dogs have created and the bills ( mine are over $800.00 for the three attacks to date). We have a few dozen families that live within a two mile radius, and I defy any of them to sue me for dispatching an animal that was on my property, in my Goat pasture, and inside a Kennel. I have the pictures, several witnesses, and that is that...

A 'moochy' neighbor's dog got himself caught up in one of our traps, a legal one .. in season .. on property we were given full permission to set for raccoon, fox, and coyote. He freed his pet, and with me being known as the only trapper within a few miles he came to my door straight away.

"Who is going to pay my vet bill?" he demanded indignantly.

I so much wanted to say "The guy who let your dog run loose," but being the guy I am I handed him the $78 and said I would NOT do so a second time, as "for all I know" his dog shouldn't have crossed the road.

I added that 'next time' he ought show up with a LEO or DNR officer, if they'd even come out. I think he knew he got the better of my good nature vs something he deserved.

You don't have to go to court to keep the peace and cough up some cash ...

btw, I often wonder why so many tractor buyers insist on having a backhoe added to their purchase, but maybe, like me, they don't have or want dogs.

My mother taught me two things about being right...

1 - The cemetary is full of people who were right.
2 - Just because you're right doesn't mean you have to let everyone know.

Your thread falls into the latter...

Still it's much better to discuss deterrents for dogs and Synchronized Shuttle Shift (SSS).

This narrative was harder to follow than a politician's money trail.

But, reading between the lines, sounds like the guy drove to the dog owner's house, and shot at a dog there? Sounds like felony time to me. Lucky for you you're not still so far down a hole they have to airmail you sunlight. Try that at some folks's house, and you won't need a lawyer at all, 'cause you'd be dead.

1. The calf owner was on a county road. not supposed to shoot across or length wise .
2. The dog was not killed . grazed might explain the wounding of the animal.
3. Dogs Owner was on run for drug problems. but had left dogs with at this place This person was a friend.

4. Women that said wasn't her dog . was daughter of Eastern Arkansas Federal Judge.
5. Prosecuting legal whiz . Wasn't about to question why doge were running wild and killing calves.
6. This is Arkansas . family relatives comes first .
.
For myself I was supposed to discourage the angary calf owner from going after dogs.
was talking to women at time of single shot told women wish it hadn't happened but not angry just comment.

Judge said I was not guilty of the shooting or problems. but Prosecuting lawyer wanted me to take anger
management classes.
Since this time the dogs have moved and I'm satisfied they will remain gone from this area.

Need more of this very strange going on here.

I wish the best of luck to ya. I had a dog problem with my neighbor, over a few years his dogs had attacked one of my dogs, chased a neighbor kid up a deer stand when the kid (at the time 14 years old, 5'9 ad 170 lbs) was hunting at my place (I watched that happen), one of them charged at me and I kicked it in the teeth, one of them chased me and I shot it, lastly one of the original dogs and a new one were in my pasture chasing my horses and I shot the original... the new one high tailed it and I haven't seen it since.

I wasn't keen on the dogs a long time ago, when they attacked my old dog I was of the mindset that dogs will be dogs, I don't trust those but it happens. When they chased the kid up a tree I had a talk with the neighbor, consulted over what to do with my brother in law (an attorney) sent certified mail, repeated calls to animal control when I would see the dogs on my farm, etc etc etc.

There were two calls to the local Sheriff giving a statement on the shootings. The neighbor hasn't talked to me in over a year and I haven't seen a dog since.
