Just curious (and nosey), Bird -- when you do move closer to town, are you sure you won't wind up with even an acre or two? There's already people on this board who confess to having a hefty tractor on a small plot o' ground. And since you already have the tractor...

I've decided to get out of the restoration hobby. I'm looking for a new reliable compact that requires minimal maintenance - so I can devote more time to other interests. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Jeff, it seems a shame for you to get out of the restoration hobby, 'cause it appears obvious that you're very good at it. I really know nothing about the Simplicity except what I've read on this forum, but yours are certainly beautiful machines.

Bird, I can tell you from personal experience that Jeff did one hell of a restoration on the Simplicity. That tractor sat outside for 7 years and had numerous problems. To get it into that shape took countless hours of effort, both mechanically and cosmetically.

Jeff, good luck selling the remaining Simplicity and let everybody know what compact you eventually get.

Thanks for nice comments guys, concerning the restorations. I'm sure they'll make excellent machines for the new owners. I really enjoyed doing the restorations and these tractors have been awesome performers for me over the years (I've owned seven of them). Time is the big issue, and the reason why I'm wrapping this hobby up. Two youngs kids, continuous home maintenance and projects, honey-do lists, and a '73 Nova SS that I want to restore on top of everything else. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Bird, these Simplicity Powermax's have 20 hp Onan twins, 3 range Sunstrand hydrostats, front and rear live, independent PTOs, front and rear hydraulics, 3-point hitches, etc. They even have down-pressure on the 3-point! Very well built units that retailed for around $6K in the mid 70's.

Bill, after months of research and the assistance of all the fine folks here at TBN, I'm really leaning towards the Kubota B2910. Seems to be about the right size, weight and hp for my needs. Of course, I'll also have to have the MMM, FEL, box blade, rear blade and brush hog to go along with it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

thanks for the pix of the bucket hooks. That will definitely be more stable than the J-hook sliding on the edge of the bucket!! Two hooks seem to be the way to go...even weight distribution and lots safer.
