New basic EV truck

Is it really a truck if it has a 5 ft bed ? :p

The price point is interesting.

The car companies are in deep doo doo with their VERY high prices, high interest rates, and low reliability. They shafted their customers in the lock down and continued to do so after the pandemic ended. The so called auto company leaders think/though people could afford $800-1000+ car payments.... One auto "leader" has already been forced out and I think more will follow. The CEO at Harley Davidson got force out for the same mind set.

@jyoutz Yes, I saw that too this morning and had a quick browse on the website, SLATE. It seems like an interesting concept, taking a page from GM's Saturn line for composite body panels, and claimed support for a slew of DIY features and enhancements.

Personally, I wouldn't mind an EV that isn't selling my every move and detail to the world, and not having hundreds of electronic features ought to keep the repair costs down, unlike many of the other EVs that can be write offs for what appears to be relatively minor accidents. We have two different PHEV for which a door ding is a "replace the door" repair because the door is made of a lightweight metal that permanently deforms.

Still, the proof is in the pudding as they say, and they haven't delivered a vehicle yet. To be continued...

All the best,

Peter

An article that I read yesterday but cannot find today was about expensive add-ons and subscription fees on new cars. No wonder that I run my trucks until they are DOE.

Seems like the base Ford maverick lists around $25. Asked the dealer about one and was told they never seem to get an allotment in that price range, only the higher priced versions.

Big surprise there.

Gotta say though, from what I've seen that Slate truck seems to be a little TOO strippo...I mean, not even a radio? I don't care about blue tooth, GPS, or any sort of cellphone integration, but I do like my tunes when I'm driving!
Range seems to be on the short side too.

Agree on the principle of the thing, but I wonder if there's enough of a market in the U.S. for something as spartan as that.

Current generation doesn't do radios-only phones.

I've seen other low price truck touted, but yet to see one come to real life.
