I think I have selected a trailer to haul my BX25 and box blade. My local PJ trailer dealer brought a 16' utility trailer and an 18' dove tail trailer out to my house so I could load my BX25 tractor on them. Both had 5' ramps and were rated for 7000lbs. The 16' had utility ramps which were only 10" wide. The narrow ramps made me a little uneasy while driving onto the trailer. I am sure this would disappear after driving on and off the trailer a few times. The bottom of the backhoe cleared hitting my driveway by less than 1" when the tractor was at the worst loading angle. The 16' trailer was too short, in my opinion, to easily carry a box blade, the tractor and its BH. The 18' dove tail trailer's 5' ramps were 13" wide and I felt a lot better while lining up the tractor to the ramps and driving onto the trailer. Since I know I can drive the tractor onto a trailer without a dovetail (barely), I will probably buy a flat bed style trailer. I was concerned about the dovetail trailer dragging on some sloped driveways.

So... I think I will order a 18' long, 77" wide flat bed with 16" cross members and 5' slide in ramps and LED lights.

Sounds like a good dealer to do all that for you. Your trailer you want is basically what I have but mine is 18'x81" and no Dove Tail. It has slide under 5' ramps that are about 12" wide and I have brakes on one axle.

Its a good trailer. I would go for the extra width if I were you. 77" is wide enough for small truck and cars but will not fit most SUV's or 1/2 or larger trucks.

No matter what you do give that dealer the business. He went out of his way for you and even it its a few hundred dollars more he is a good guy and should be rewarded.

I was very impressed with the dealer bringing out 2 trailers for me to try. In fact I had found a car trailer for sale owner who agreed to tow his trailer to my house - for $50 - so I could try driving on to a trailer without a dovetail. That is when I thought why not ask the new trailer dealer if they would do it for nothing?! I was surprised when they readily agreed to do this. That saved me $50. I am ordering the trailer from him this morning. Just missed their order cycle, so will take about 4 weeks for delivery.

I did not want the 83" wide flat bed because I have no plans to haul cars on the trailer, and space at my house is a little bit of an issue. I was a little concerned about this hurting the resale of the trailer, but the salesman said the narrower width would not hurt resale. He said many customers, like me, have only a 10' RV gate and do not want the wider trailer. I don't plan on selling it anyway.

Really sounds like you have a great dealer and deserved your business. Congrates on new trailer:thumbsup:

I have been towing my BX25 on a 16' shop made trailer with my Chev Colorado 5 cyl and do not feel comfortable on the freeway. Went to a local trailer dealer that is well recommended. He told me I was crazy and an acident going somewhere to happen. He looked up my Colorado capacity versus my weight of tractor and one extra implement and said he would not sell me anything less than a 16' carhauler type trailer but would not connect it to any rig less than a 1 ton dual wheel truck. If I insisted he would park the trailer down the road in a parking lot and I was on my own. WA state law requires that all axels on a trailer have brakes and brakes are required if the trailer and load exceed
2500#.

BC Canada is extremely nasty on the trailer/brake issue. I have a daughter living up there who wants me to come up with the tractor to do some work for them. A friend of mine had a car on trailer behind his MH and was stopped. He had to take the car off the trailer, trailer still weighed more than allowed so had to park it. Before he could get a tow rig to pick up the trailer the RCMP had towed it off. It cost him $500 to get it back plus he had to trade it on a new trailer in order to continue the trip. He asked them about towing with aa tow bar, OK except he had to get the brake kit so the car brakes would work off the MH brakes.

I am back to square one my BX hauling. Looking for a better trailer first, then go from there on the tow rig situation. To get to my servicing dealer I have to travel the freeway. Keeping my fingers crossed on not having a major problem till I get the situation resolved.

Honestly, why don't you feel comfortable? I am currently towing my BX24 on 16' trailer and s10 blazer. I also use wd bars and sway control. No problems towing and I feel comfortable.

If you dont feel confortable, either you haven't tweaked your towing rig setup to make it so or towing might not be your thing.

I have toed my BX23 on a 14ft tandem...That wasn't very comfortable due to the shortness and lack of Drings..That aside, it did just fine on the road...An 18ft trailer would be perfect...That's what I'm looking into...The BX's are a little heavy, but towing them shouldn't be a big deal with a smaller truck, as long as there are brakes on the trailer..You'll just go slower up hill...A 1 ton is certainly not necessary to pull a BX.

I bought a 14' dump trailer. It will handle 7000 lbs of weight, I think it is a 12,000GVW trailer. The BX25 fits fine, just bend the boom to one side. Dump trailers are great for the BX25. I added D_Rings inside it, bought some rachet straps, added some tie down lugs from, I think it was JARI and off we go, no problemos'.
