More lotsa fill. There's probably about 50 tons of washed No. 57 gravel there.

A big thanks to JASTN70D who moved almost all of it (99%) ... from the comfort of the heated cab on his TN70D (it got so warm with the sun out - and without the heater running - that he even had to take off his jacket)

I moved a little of it ..... but mostly I just ran the shovel. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Randy what's up with that gas line coming up right in the middle of one of your overhead doors in one of your pictures? Did the wife take the blame for that one I hope? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Looks like you're making good time for as cold as its been around here lately. it was 7 degrees this morning when I checked. Don't know what the wind chill factor was......

Mike,

That's where I tried to assign it but she wasn't buying it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Was probably the two helpers that showed up and lent a hand. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Progress has slowed quite a bit ... been a little too chilly lately. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I think one of the next things I'll be doing (after spreading the gravel) is getting a ceiling in and or putting up some vapor barrier on the walls.

I was originally only going to partition off and finish 1/3 of the structure - since they've finished my plans have gotten a little more ambitous - I'm thinking finishing 2/3rds of it - probably the north and the middle bays. I figure if I leave the south bay unfinished with no ceiling at least it will get some heat gain from the sun on sunny days during the winter.

Now the question is, if I plan on putting in a insulated ceiling and insulated walls on the north 2/3rds what do I need to do as far as a vapor barrier .... ? Should I get some 8' wide x 4 mil visquine and hang it on the inside of the 2' x 4' girts on the walls ? And then the insulation would go inside of that ?

On the ceiling I've already noticed some precipitation - dunno whether it's just ice that was on the steel and purlins originally melting - or (worse) a condensation problem ..... so I'm not quite what to do on the ceiling. .... I figured I wait a little bit until I was sure that all the ice had a chance to melt and see whether condensation was going to be a problem.

Any advice appreciated.

Randy,

Hey get to work!! I expect a completed barn the next time I come by. Oh yea it will probably be this weekend!

I am going to need some heat, coffee, donuts and maybe some music out there....hey how about a 72 inch LCD for the games also.

It looks like you are spending way to much time posting !! And did I not hear it is going to be pushing 40 degrees today. No more excuses. Unless of course your just plan wore out as I know I would be and your allot older than me /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Can we start calling the barn by its real name "The Money/Time Pit" yet? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

John,

I started to reply to this a couple of times and got side-tracked. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now that I've finally managed to come up with a plan on exactly how I wanted to finish out the interior, estimate the materials, purchase them and have them delivered, weather has now turned bad again /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

29° with winds gusting to 32 mph with a windchill of 15° .... brrrr.

Hard to get excited about going out to barn in this kind of weather ..... too many gaps around the skirtboard and without a ceiling it's next to impossible to heat to any degree ....

I was able to get the lumber delivered yesterday while it was still nice .... glad I had them deliver it. The guy from Lowes got here just before the rain started, whipped it into the polebarn with his towmotor. He managed to get all but the last bundle (which had some long stuff that was too big for the door) in before the rain began. He got the last one to the door and we hand-carried it from there.

Got the mitre saw pulled down from the shed and set up on sawhorses. Got 17 bottom plates measured and cut and 5 outlet boxes installed before I quit for the evening (at 11 PM /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Haven't read all of your thread so do not know if you plan on heating your barn and enclosing the ceiling. If you are, you may want to put a ceiling moisture barrier up early because that will help with keeping it a little warmer. My contractor put up 6 mil clear plastic sheeting prior to putting up a 7/16 OSB ceiling. The sheeting made all the difference in the world. All of this was done a couple of years ago in February in Mid Michigan with about 18 inches of snow on the ground and an average temperature (wind chill factor not included) of about 15 degrees. I did have 1 inch foil backed foam under the metal siding and that helped as well.

Dave,

Thanks for response. I do plan on heating it - at least intermittently, if nothing else. There is a chance that at some point I might install a gas furnace and leave the thermostat set on 40° or something to keep the water line from freezing and avoid having to shut it off for the winter.

Your advice on putting up plastic as a vapor is helpful - I actually was planning on doing this - on both the ceiling and the walls. I'm sure that having plastic up on the ceiling would make a world of difference. However one of the things I sometime run into is a little difficulty with is the sequence of things (as in, being unsure of what to do next) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Currently there are no joists between the bottom chords of the trusses (8' o.c.) - so it still has to be framed in ..... I think I might need to do that first before putting up the plastic ..... otherwise the plastic might end up being a obstacle in getting the ceiling framed in. I guess that should be one of the things I concentrate on, since having that vapor barrier up would make a big difference in being able to heat it to any measurable degree.

The 1 inch backed foil is a good idea as well ..... particularly in that it would be relatively easy to install compared to other stuff ..... just tack up 8' widths to the inside of the girts inbetween the poles.

Thanks again.
