[Having made the purchase, would you do anything differently? More HP, options etc.]

Ttowne,

In retrospect, and for my needs, I don't think I would do anything different. I put a lot of consideration into what I really wanted in a tractor, how much I was willing to spend, and what tasks the tractor needed to perform. What really helped me was all of the good information and suggestions from the members of TBN. If you look through my prior posts you can see that the tractor I finally purchased was somewhat different than what I originally thought I wanted and needed. I started out looking at a B3030, I considered several configurations of the L3130, but I finally decided on the L3430HSTC/LA723/QA/R4. The only option I did not get, which I feel may be worthwhile if you are digging in heavy soils or rock, is the heavy duty front end loader bucket. I believe that the L3430 is adequately powered, but the tractor is not going to win any races. I have hilly terrain and low or medium range works best for driving up hills because the tractor tries to stall if I attempt to climb hills in high range. I don't have any use for remotes, draft control or mid PTO, so I did not consider those options for the initial purchase. Of course more horsepower is always nice, but to obtain more horsepower and keep a factory cab, you have to step up to the L4330, L4630, or L5030, and I just wasn't willing to push my purchase budget any further, you just have to draw the line somewhere. For my needs I believe that I made the right choice, however your needs may be and are probably different, therefore requiring a different configuration. Good luck with your purchase decision. TBN is a great place to obtain different points of view to help hash it all out. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the info! did you get the rear & side defrosters? If not do you wish you did? If so ... do you think you need them? Thanks.

Jim - If it will help to make you feel even better about your excellent rig, so does the 5030! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As for: TBN is a great place to obtain different points of view to help hash it all out.

Ain't that the truth!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I sure do love this place, can you tell? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Happy holidays all, and peace to all men (and women, can't forget the ladies, without whom none of us would be here!), and tractors, of all different colors.

John:

You are chipper for Christmas and I don't mean a wood chipper.

I have spent the last two days in the shop running the Bridgeport but not milling metal......milling wood. 400 pieces of 4x6 oak timbers, 200 2 foot long and 200 3 foot long, milling a notch in the middle of each 3.5" wide x 3" deep. Don't ask for what, you won't believe me. Lots of wood shavings for my wife to bed the horses with.....garbage bags full, many.

The Bridgeport works well for this task with a fly cutter and HSS tooling.

My old 5030 did the same thing when I could find a hill....it's pretty flat here. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Merry Christmas.

[did you get the rear & side defrosters? If not do you wish you did? If so ... do you think you need them?]

Ttowne, I did not get the side window defroster and I believe that the rear window defroster is standard equipment on the HSTC. For my needs, I feel that the side window defroster is not a critical option because the temps where I live rarely drop below 10's-20's. Furthermore, I am able to compensate for any humidity in the cab by adjusting the control for the amount of outside air brought into the cab. However, if I lived farther north, I think that a side window defroster would certainly be a useful item because of the colder temps, and I would have purchased that option.

May I suggest that you scan the Kubota boards on TBN for posters who live north of the U.S. border and ask those individuals about side window defrosters. They would probably be able to give you more accurate information regarding the subject than I can.

Good luck on you pending purchase decision.

Jim

John D.,

I won't say that I'm glad to hear that your L5030HST also stalls on hills in high range, but the fact does give me a comforting sense that the L3430 seems to be adequately powered. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Thanks for the information.

John

And oh yeah, as to You are chipper for Christmas - I've got that "Peace on Earth" bug REAL bad - I sure hope there's a cure for it, sometimes I miss taking out my childhood frustrations on other people - maybe Skypup can work on a cure for it in his genetics lab! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I sure don't want to "feel the teeth" on his signature pup.

Daryl, that's for sure! I think it would take a little more than a rolled-up newspaper to keep that puppy-dog in line!

Thom has him well-trained though - when he's being attacked by someone, he says "heel", and the dogs rips off the guy's heel; and when Thom says "head", well ........... let's just say, it's best not to attack Thom. LOL

Anyway, hey, I really am curious, what the heck are you building??? It sounds like many many separate things, and not one big structure .... please tell, you're killin' me here!

Best regards, Curious George

Mark,

I could use some good tips on a Stereo and Speakers for my new L3430HSTC as I opted to pass on Kubota's setup simply because I thought I could equal or do better for less. Please give me some insight on Stereo/CD units, Speakers and installation as the tractor is being delivered next week.

Thanks!

Curious George, ooops I mean John!!

Just doing a job for my employer and making loads of shavings, 20, 30 gallon plastic garbage bags full. My wife will use them for stall bedding.

Actually, I used a flycutter and a HSS toolbit in the mill and milled.....not the right term, cut...cut is wood, milled is steel...cut a 3-1/4" deep x 4" wide through pocket in 200 4"x6"x2foot long oak timbers and 200 3 foot long timbers. It only consumed about 1/16" of toolbit (about 8 re-sharpenings). I ganged 6 at a time on the table and used the power cross feed so all I had to do was watch it. Cutting wood is a lot different than metal. It's way more messy but...it smells much better. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I could tell when my cutter needed touched up, the wood started smoking.
