I was a little surprised that even at higher rpm, I could not curl at all once in the gravel pile. Always had to back up a little. I'm trying to push in and curl at the same time, and have a long way to go to get better at it. But the FEL seems weak scooping stone. But likely that offers me some safety until I get more weight in the rear. I think I'll experiment using 2000 rpm and turn off the stall guard; curious to see if the nanny device is set very protectively. But I really don't want to load the tractor too much until it has more time on it; I'm up to a whopping 18 hours now. And boy am I having fun.
As John noted, there is a certain touch or technique to getting a full bucket and it will vary from tractor to tractor. Even with our M8540, you can't just run in, get a bucket full, curl and back out. If you don't do it right you just dig holes and bounce around. Your manual will give you rudimentary instructions, but there is nothing like practice. I have thousands of hours using FEL's going back over thirty years and still just dump the bucket, back out and give it another shot as you will vary depending on type of dirt, rock, mulch etc. I moved several dump truck loads of 6" minus crushed rock and it was a real bear to get a full bucket while 1" clean was a breeze.
