We call them cluster mailboxes down here in florida... Most new communities are being built with these.

Here in Canada all new urban developments and all rural areas have "super mailboxes." That's newspeak for one big mutha everyone must go to to pick up mail. There is no home delivery anymore, unless you live in older urban areas.
The "super mailboxes" are just like ones in apartments, little doors individually keyed, but out in the open. At least newspapers still get delivered to each dwelling.

Just curious, if there out in the open, did they build them with a ½" slope? LOL
I think it's a good idea too. I'll have to whittle a little off the support block I suppose?

Yes, they build them with 1/2" slope toward the rear so everyone's mail gets soaked. :)

My little neighborhood actually got together to purchase one of these to replace a cluster of individual mailboxes. We were having mail stolen. Probably crack heads looking for checks to cash. Maybe an identity thief. People get worried these days so we bought a super box and poured concrete. We actually like them for a suburban setting and the maillady can just do it all at once instead of traveling box to box.

Our neighboorhood (twenty 5-acre lots) did the same a few years back due mostly to convenience. Our gravel private road is a mile long, and this gives the lazy mail lady a single place to put the mail. I think the post office actually gave the homeowners association some sort of kick-back for the convenience. The original box that was purchased was broken into once before one of our neighbors took it to his shop and super-modified it (to the tune of plate all around). We've got it mounted in a concrete slab at the entrance to our road, and so far, so good (3 years now). Now if we could just get the lazy mail lady to get her a** out of her jeep to deliver the packages that are too big for the box  ...instead, she just drives up the drive way and tosses it out her window in front of the garage door. Or, better yet, if she doesn't feel like driving the extra 1/4 mile to the front of the garage door, she just leaves a little notice in the mail box and we have to go to the post office to pick it up.

Yea service,

Get this - My post office box fee was due in July so I used the Pre Printed, pre addressed, postage paid envelope, that they provided. I made the payment by check and dropped it in the "Local mail only" slot at the post office where the payment was due - yep they lost it. My box got locked out. they rented it to someone else and I had to change my address.

Do I have a legitimate excuse to go "postal"?

Well,
Right after I started this thread I sent a birthday card to Mrs3RRL at the property. It was returned as "no such address" or "undeliverable address" and she didn't get her card. The letter returned to my Rancho address the day of her birthday so they got it in plenty of time. Worst thing was I didn't bring a card up for her and I felt real bad about it all weekend until I got home and saw the letter returned. Then she got it. But nevertheless, it PO'ed me.

The local post office delivers to my neighbor whose box is on the same culdesac as mine....maybe 30' away. Since it's a culdesac, he has to drive right by the sucker and it's not like you can't see it. He must have driven by our new mailbox 5 times last week. What's up with that? Now he's the same mailman that put a "rock" where he wanted the mailbox and wrote on the big rock "mailbox". So my wife calls the post office to tell them and they said we have to file an application of "notification" to let them know we have a deliverable address....jees...come on. It's a town with 2,000 residents!
Do you think they'll do the same with junk mail?

That reminds me of a story of a guy who walks into an office to see the owner, and the secretary says that no one can see the owner without an appointment. So the guy asks to make an appointment, and the secretary says that they don't take appointments.

Our local post office began loosing our mail.. uh.. well when we got the address 22ys ago.. but that is another story. more recently, they have been giving our mail to other local people.. and we have been getting their mail. The Post office even delivered my tax documents from my cpa to somebody else.. I 'lost' it when that happened. Since contacting the local post master has never done anything, I blazed off a 3 page nice but stern letter to the Post master general. Amazingly I got an email and a phone call within a day, followed by a bunch of voicemails from the local post master...

Perhaps it is time to write the PMG and let them know that the level of service at your local branch is not what you feel is up to par.. etc.
