Thanks PAfarmer, the no snow thing is kind of nice. Normally I wouldn't think of starting this project now but the weather has been really good. Still get enough rain but it has been pretty warm for here. Of corse we have gotten quite a bit of snow in March in the past but I'm hoping the good weather holds on. I took the snow blower off the tractor 3 weeks ago. Didn't use it once this year. Up to 6 or 8" I just plow with my 4 wheeler and we never got that much this year.

Hey deezler, yes that is Song Mtn. Right now I plan on heating the 1/2 my shop will be in. Plan on putting a ceiling for the shop and insulating it well. Then try to figure out the best way to heat it. Still thinking about that one. Maybe something with propane as I will have propane for the house.
why not a wood furnace? If you have access to scap building material as well as firewood, they work well. More work obviously but oil or gas of any kind is not cheap when you are heating a barn with minimal insulation.

I like the wood stove and that is what I have in my current shop. What I don't like is that it takes 2 hours to heat it up enough to be comfortable. I would like something that it could keep it at about 50* and then when I wanted to work in there I could either use the wood stove or turn up the heat to get it comfortable. Actually, 50* isn't bad to work in. Just don't want to go out there when it is below freezing and have to wait for the wood stove to warm it up. Must be getting soft as I get older.

Darren,

I clicked on the pictures above and thought it looked a lot like the view around here, then I opened the picture with Song in the background and realized.....Hey! that is around here.

Good luck, it looks like it is going to be warm for the next couple of weeks. One of the TV stations last night had temperatures in the 70's all next week.

Darren,

Question for you, where did you order your barn from? I'm contemplating a pole barn also.

Hey Kevin, and thanks. I ordered through Essex Steel down in Cortland. Tully Building had a very similar price but Essex added alot of small detailed things and engineered drawings. Essex make all the steel right there and they get the lumber from Tully Building anyways. You save about 15000.00 by doing it yourself. I talked with some of the big pole barn places but they were very expensive.

Darren,

What parts of the building are steel?

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin, the whole roof and the outside of the building are steel.

Kevin, the whole roof and the outside of the building are steel.

Do you mean the roof trusses are steel, or the roof material is steel panels, or both? Do you mean the siding is steel or the vertical supports are steel, or both? I'm curious if you chose all steel what the cost comparison was with wood.
