New Server Notice

Greetings, Users,

This is just a final update on the speed issues… Over the past week or two we’ve been diagnosing and tweaking the forum for some reports of slow loading. The forum was tweaked for speed with the removal of the spell checker, ICQ status indicator, and the 2nd banner running at the bottom of the page, in addition to some internal changes that all helped decrease loading times on pages.

However, since the new forum has opened, the amount of traffic and number of users accessing the forum and TractorByNet.com website is simply overwhelming. So, to accommodate the high (and now steady) amount of traffic this site is receiving, we upgraded our server host, and TractorByNet.com now sits on ‘IMC Ultra 2’ – an ultra-volume server more than 10 times more capable and faster than the one we were on previously. The server sits on multiple-T3 backed-up connections.

This changeover has been completed without any downtime, so you won't have to worry about the site being down (now, or ever!)

So, with our new server, and new forum, we don’t plan on encountering any more speed problems for a little while.

In response to the 'missing' messages - I guess our new server had an after-dinner snack and munched a few down late last night. I would say that the only posts that may have been deleted would have been posted between 10:30 and 11:30 PM EST. (Time of change) And the total would be not more than 8 posts, but probably not less than 4. This was just the one-time server change, when you actually 'posted' to the old server, but what was moved to the new server was a few minutes behind.

The one that I know disappeared was one I posted within a minute or two of 11 p.m., my time (midnight Eastern time).

I think I may have some idea of what happened. The server change was effected by means of an IP address change. This IP address change has to propagate to the individual DNS servers we all use via our ISPs. In your case, Bird, you were posting to the old server as late as a few minutes before midnight EDT. I know this because I was, too. I actually posted to the old server at 10:30 AM this morning because I have a local DNS caching program on my system that hadn't refreshed. Your messages were still on the old server as of that time this morning. My message this morning was actually a test to see if I could post to it. Every time I click on "Who's Online", I woiuld be the only one. I thought I'd slipped into an alternate reality...

Gordon, I bought (and even read all the way through) The Complete Idiot's Guide to Windows 98/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif, but of course most of the books only tell you how to use it when everything is working just right./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Oh, that's all right, Mark. I'm sure you know by now that when you talk about computers, you don't have to aim very high to shoot over my head./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif And when I went to post this message, I found I had been automatically logged out again. And tonight, the forum could only be described at erratic. Sometimes I can change screens in seconds, and sometimes a minute to a minute and a half. Of course, this afternoon my ISP had a message on their "status" phone number that "we're currently experiencing technical difficulties with our new server", but they supposedly have it fixed; supposedly.

I've had the automatic log-out problem a bunch of times and it's always been when I click on the Feedback & More Topic or one of the others at the bottom of the list. It's never happened when entering one of the Kubota, JD, or Ford/NH Forums.
