Hi all & happy Thanksgiving!
I'm glad I found this site as it really helped me in deciding to get our tractor. Great info here. My wife and I have been talking about getting a tractor ever sense we moved to this property, 8 years ago. What pushed us over the edge this year was finding out last week that the guy plowing our driveway couldn't really do it anymore, and with such short notice we couldn't find anyone else.

Originally we were looking at a BX2200 or possibly a B2410. After looking/talking to our local dealer & discussing our uses we decided the BX2200 was a bit small. We needed a tractor with larger implements and better ground clearance for use in the woods. Also we don't have any grass to cut just woods.

I really liked the B2410 but snowblowers were all sold. Anyhow when I saw the B2710 I was sold & there was a 63" blower that was ordered for someone who decided he didn't want it. So we ended up with a B2710 with LA402 loader, B2772 front mount 63" snowblower and a Heard sander that mounts to the rear 3 pt hitch. We take delivery next week!

We live in Sturbridge, MA and have a log home on 8.5 acres of woodlands. We also have a 325 foot driveway that winds up a VERY steep hill. At the top of the hill it forks with a single lane (80ft) running up another hill to the barn/garage & the other fork openes up to double width with a turn out for parking to the house (150ft). Thats a lot of snow to move :>!

We are also getting the BL4690A next spring. Other uses will be spreading about 6 yards of mulch each spring planting trees, digging planting beds along the sides of the drive & cleaning up fallen trees to be cut up for fire wood.

It's really going to be nice to be self sufficient and not have to relly or be at the mercy of someone else :>!

That's the primary reason I purchased mine this past year - I had moved to a new house with 600' driveway and 2,000 sf turnaround. Didn't want to rely on someone to move the snow.

If I could, I would've just bought a plow for my vehicle, as that would've been cheaper.

In the end, even though it (tractor, blower, MMM, and FEL) cost a ton a money, I know it'll pay for itself in the end. Snowplowing alone would've run $80 per pop, so an easy $1,000 plus per season out the door .

I think that I looked at your set up at the beginning of my tractor shopping experience (except for the sander), but the price was way over my limit.

You'll enjoy it; you'll have fun in the winter.

You may want to get chains for your tires; may help on that steep driveway or if you get any ice storms.

Congratulations!!! I know you're going to LOVE that snowblower. I had a great time last winter. I'm all set to rock and roll this winter but here it is Thanksgiving and 60 degrees./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Enjoy!

Thanks for the responses. I just registered.

I thought about chains but decided to wait and see how she does with the filled rear tires. Also thought if its icy I could back down while using the sander? Don't know if that would work or not?

I went back to the dealer today and the tractor is just about setup. I'll be taking delivery a week from Saturday. I wanted to make sure that a backhoe was reserved for us for next spring. Also wanted to check out a log splitter and small utility trailer that I could tow behind my 4x4 on road or the tractor around the property.

We were paying $75 a pop every time the drive was plowed, with some years costing us over $1000. Last year we had so much snow we literally ran out of room/places to push it. But even at a $1000 a year it would take 20 years for the tractor to pay for itself. But I' m not looking at it that way. There is also a price for being able to take care of things yourself when you want to. I'm just sick and tired of having to depend on someone else. Also up until now I've been doing every yard chore by hand, spreading all that mulch with a shovel and wheel barrow, digging flower beds & planting trees with a pick and shovel. Cutting up downed trees & clearing out undergrowth in the woods with a chain saw and then hauling everthing out by hand. I don't mind the work but it takes forever & seriously cuts into my fishing time :>!

Can someone make any suggestions on a good all around box utility trailer thats road legal? Uses would be for hauling plants etc from nursery, carting fire wood, etc.
Thanks again,
Barnett

Barnett, I don't know about your area, but in my part of the country there are "trailer" dealers everywhere with just about every imaginable kind of trailer. Nearly 7 years ago, I bought a 5' x 10' single axle tilt bed trailer for $400 from an individual. He bought it new to move from town out in the country and then had no more use for it. I use it behind my pickup on the road and behind the tractor off the road and it's sure been handy; seems to be just the right size for most of my needs. And I've hauled up to 2000 pounds on it at a time.

Did I misunderstand, snowblowers are not available for the B2410 or they were just sold out? Does it use a different blower than the 2710 and 2910? Just curious. J

Bird,
That trailer sounds perfect for my needs. Do you have a name brand? Don't know of a lot of trailer places up here but I'll have to shop around.

TresCrows,
Dealer had 6 blowers for B2410 but all were sold. If I wanted to order one it would have been March before I got it.

For front mount blowers the B2410 uses either B2650 (50") or B2660 (60"). B27/2910 uses B2771 (51") or B2772 (63"). I got the 63" because of the amount of snow I have to move. Also construction of the blowers for the B27/2910's seemed a bit more heavy duty & had a larger gear box.

Barnett,

Welcome to TBN and congratulations on the tractor purchase. That sounds like a neat setup - I don't remember anyone else having mentioned running a sander and snowblower before. I hope you hang around and let us know how it works out.

Barnett, I'm sorry, but my trailer has no brand name on it, so I'm not sure who made it.

I'm with Bird. I bought a 5x8 single axle from Home Depot for $599. I use it behind my ATV for hauling stuff, and it's big enough to haul the ATV in for repairs if need be. The brand is Haulin'Ass...with the word Haulin' followed by a sketch of a mule. Pretty rugged unit. My wife, who backs up until it sounds expensive, has run into, over and through several obstructions (like the corner of the house!) with it and done no damage to the trailer.

HD also had a less expensive model with a plywood deck, but with me hauling logs I opted for the one with the decking lumbers.

I'll definitely be hanging out here. Way to much good info shared to miss out. Thanks for the input on trailers. I'll check out Home Depot and see what they have. I'll also try and post some pics of house/property & tractor after she's delivered.

To get the most bang for the buck, you might want to update your profile to show approximately where you live, what sort of climate you have, etc. Helps the rest of us tailor our advice to your particular needs.

Welcome aboard! You'll have a blast with your new toy, um, tractor. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I can't tell you how much this site has helped me, I too just got a 2410 and FEL, now with 3.9 hours on it. As I have said before, if brain surgeons have site like this, transplants can't be far off.

Hi all,
Taking delivery tomorrow! Weather is supossed to be nice here in Mass (60 degrees), wife is gone for the day, AND I've got a big pile of wood already cut and split to move for my first chore. So I've got the day to get some practice on my new toy before winter gets serious here and the snow starts to fly. So how am I supposed to sleep tonight :>?

You don't! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Saturday you'll play a bit, probably wax it, ponder appropriate names, and play some more. Sunday will be all play. Monday you'll get some sleep when you go back to work! /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Have fun!

Tractor was delivered 10:30am yesterday. I think my father in law was more excited than I was :>. He wanted to see it too. He's got a lot of experience with tractors, etc from his job maintaining town water supply. He was actually the first one in the seat! We spent about an hr with the guy just going over everything. He was very helpful. My father inlaw was very impressed with the Kubota. I noticed although there is a cap to protect the rear PTO when not in use, there isn't one for the mid mount PTO shaft that drives the blower? When I asked if it was missing the guy said there isn't one?

I spent the rest of the day getting used to her. I drove out into the woods and split a bit more firewood then loaded up and hauled 5 buckets full back to the house. I put almost 2 hrs on the clock. My wife got home just after I finished. I had just put the tractor in the barn. All she said was nice, can't wait until spring when we can get the backhoe!

I spent the rest of the day getting used to the implements. I took the FEL off and attached the snow blower. Also straighened out the quick connects on the hydraulic lines from the snowblower male quick hitch, as they were slightly kinked. Finished up by reading thru all the manuals last night.

The only thing I didn't see were steps to install implements. It took me a bit to figure out how to remove the FEL and especially how to attach the male quick hitch for the front mount snow blower. I lifted this on by hand. In hind sight I guess I should have attached the piston & lines, lifted it up then put the pin thru? Also the pin that attaches the male mount to the frame wasn't long enough to let me get the securing bolt thru. I ended up C clamping both sides of the hitch to the frame and then was able to get it. I know I could have done it better/quicker if I had the steps in some sort of logical order.

Anyone out there care to share their methods for on/off of the FEL & front mount blower?

We are going through the same thing with the mid pto on my B7500. The dealer says they don't make a cover for it. We have gotten some responses from the larger tractor owners that theirs do have covers. I guess I'm gonna try to come up with something that will work.

As far a disconnecting your fel, you should have gotten an owners manual for the tractor and an additional manual for each of the implements you bought. If you don't, call the dealer. I removed my fel for the first time and this is how I did it. All of this is best done on level ground.

Romoval:

1. Put the bucket on the ground and roll it forward enough so you can get the storage legs on the side put into position.
2. Put some pressure on the bucket to lift the front of the tractor off the ground slightly (takes any pressure off the pins) and pull the pins. They should come out by hand. if they don't try it again until they do.
3. Roll the bucket back which will lift the fel out of its mount.
4. Shut off the tractor, move the fel lever all around to relieve pressure and disconnect the lines. Put all of the dirt caps in place.
5. Drive away/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Reattach:

1. Drive up to the fel getting the fel into its mounting bracket.
2. Turn off the tractor and reconnect the hydro lines.
3. Start the tractor and roll the bucket forward to lower the rear of the fel into its seated position. Lift the front of the tractor slightly to fully seat it in its brackets.
4. Reinstall the pins, raise the storage legs and your done.
