Looks just like the Howse version that has been around for a few years.

It looks EXACTLY like the Howse version except for the color of the paint. I have the 3-in-1 version and it is a nice unit.

I've even used it as a basis to build a modular pallet fork set up too.

I bought one of these subsoilers two months ago. It works great. I laid some poly water pipe 12" deep in hard sand soil using it. It seems heavier than the one from Howse.

I ended up buying the King Kutter subsoiler last night as that was available locally. I tried it out in my field of annual ryegrass. It worked well for tearing up the soil, but I don't see how it will work for irrigation as it does not have the middle buster thingy to open the hole up. I will probably end up renting a ditchwich.

I'm just about to buy one of those Rankin subsoilers- have some wire to get underground.

For those who are still undecided, I would strongly recommend the modular 3-in-1 unit because you can build other implements off of the main frame piece. Any of them can be used for pulling cable.

I drilled 2 holes along the back edge of my subsoiler, used 2 muffler clamps, and a cheap piece of plastic drain pipe and it makes a perfect wire puller.

Also, if you spin the frame around and mount it backwards it presents a flush area to build off of. I mounted a fork lift back stop on it by welding 3 pieces of angle iron onto the back. 2 are mounted on an angle to support the weight of the load and transfer the load weight to the red subsoiler frame, a third angle iron piece is drilled with a hole for a top link pin and locks the pallet fork frame to the subsoiler frame. Then I hung the pallet forks on that. It is all modular mounts up in a couple minutes, and each piece is light enough to lift into place. It also stacks up flush against the wall when not in use.

Pretty sure Rankin is out of Yakima WA which is just over a mountain pass from my house. I have a Rankin light duty rotary cutter and have been pleased with what it has held up through. I would like a subsoiler too. Maybe we can get a deal together, I can pick them up.

Hmm, how would we do this? I live in Wisconsin and you live in Washington. I am open to any ideas.

OK, I have an idea ... I'd like one too. Here's the plan.
Maybe Doc Bob should pay for all 3 of them and you (highbeam) go pick them up. Then you ship one to me (I pay shipping for both) and ship the other one to Bob? Is that even close? :) :D :) I was thinking since you will be picking them up, spending your time and gas and effort, and I'm paying for shipping to Doc and myself and I thought of the idea, maybe it would work out? I figure Bob can afford it because he has a big tractor and is putting in solar water heating and is a Doc and all... if not, that's OK too. :)

You have a fertile imagination! :D

I was thinking more along the lines of me picking them up in Yakima and bringing them to UPS to be shipped instead of paying shipping and handling to Rankin. Sometimes folks like Rankin can charge huge amounts of money for shipping when UPS will do it for cheap. If Rankin will ship for cheap then it is of no benefit. I like to buy stuff and haul it, even more if it helps tractor folks.

Did you folks notice that the medium duty Rankin subsoiler weighs a lot? Like it might not be that easy to lift into place?

That's what I was thinking too...
Looks like Bob doesn't have a sense of humor?:D Really Bob, I saw your thread on your "free" solar heating project. That's pretty neat. Thought you'd want to share the wealth? Ha ha.:) Guess I'll have to stick with my boxblade...

Last time I called Rankin they wouldn't sell direct. They only sell to dealers. It might be different if you pick it up though.

How do I find a dealer??

You can contact Rankin through their website, Rankin Equipment Co. I don't think they distribute to your area though. You probably should talk to your local tractor dealers and look at the lines they represent.
