It would seem to me that bullets of common calibers would have more value in trade than cash or gold given the circumstances being contemplated here.

I don't want your 1/4 ounce of gold for my pound of butter. You got any .308 bullets?

I sincerely think that if we can't learn to work with each other for the common good, instead of trying to barter for our immediate needs, perhaps we're all doomed and may not even know it.

And ironically enough, the biggest amount of battle packs I've got is in .308

I wouldn't want to trade though, I'd want to work with you.

And yes, I realize some people you can't work with:D

As bad as we have it right now, it could always be worse. Be thankful for what you have. Then again, without being able to share it with people you love, would it even be worthwhile?

Yeah, thankful for what we have, but even more so thankful for the choice and the opportunity to get whatever and give where needed. Thank goodness for liberty.

I agree. Living in a society that worked as I described would be very difficult. I've been contemplating possible futures for a while and this outcome disturbs me.

Couldn't agree more.

Its no secret the country is in MAJOR financial trouble.
The best thing anyone can do is to GET OUT OF DEBT NOW.

If you have any unwanted items..... boats, cars, rv, that you don't use,
NOW is the time to sell them and use the money to pay off your debt.

We have had at least 15 - 20 tractor buyers call us to sell their tractors back cause they lost their jobs or loosing the house:(

As far as offshore banking... I know nothing, Im invested in heavy metals Yanmar (tractors)

Thanks to my God, my wife and carefull planning we run 0 debt.:D

Agree completely, I also have 0 debt.

My advice:

1 Get out of debt
2 Have adequate emergency supplies
3 Invest in yourself and your ability to be productive and self supporting.
4 Diversify and hedge your investments.

If I were to decide to invest outside the country in non dollar denominated assets, I would probably start here. (I have no connection with them in any way)

I believe this is great advice, except it applies at all times, not just when you think the government & the economy are about to fail.

+1

I just love all the radio commercials I hear about how to get out of debt, and it's not even your fault that you're in debt to begin with (per the ads). Kind of like it's not your fault that you put yourself in that position to begin with and if the government can get a bail out, why can't you?

Also love watching house hunters (my wife got me hooked on HGTV) and those young couples who put nothing down on a house and get a variable rate loan:ashamed:

If you are worried about governmental problems and the dollar be devalued I believe that I would like much of my savings invested in properties in a good tourist area. When our dollar is devalued, even more tourists come here making these desirable properties. Who knows what other currency will go down with the dollar when it is devalued.

If you are worried about complete society breakdown such as would occur in the event of a nuclear war then non-perishable food and arms would be the best investment.

I had the unpleasant experience of witnessing firsthand a complete meltdown of society when Katrina struck the New Orleans area and law enforcement and government were non-existent for weeks. Luckily, civilization was restored when those from non-afflicted areas came to our rescue and restored law and order.

However, I quickly saw how fast society disintegrates when government ceases and how food and arms can be much more important than money of any currency. In the event of multiple nuclear strikes there would be no large contingency coming to the rescue of any one area such as we had and restoration of society might not come within your lifetime.

I always admire those that say get out of debt.
Yeah, real simple to say. A lot hader to do. I think consumers added close to a trillion dollar in debt this last quarter. It doesn't take a lot of thought to figure out why.
