Price Check Orange Crush

My wife and I bought the L3540 after comparing it against the 3800. Probably not a fair comparison but we really like it. I would buy another one if I had to do it again.

No local dealers for Kioti, so I didn't consider that brand.

My Dad retired from JD after 35 years - he thinks the Kubota offers more bang for the buck then JD, but he's a little saddened that I don't have green in my shed.

FWIW, I thought I was going "bigger" and really ended up with the same size tractor, only beefed up. Started with the L4300 4WD gear(which I still have) found it lacking on some jobs. Bought an MX5000 4WD gear and found it to be just the right size. Looking at it closely, it's just a beefed up L4300 with bigger tires and engine and a heavier front axle. Dimensions are nearly identical, neglecting the tires.

Having them both on hand is ideal. Not nearly as much implement switching. Plus the MX has extendable 3-pt. arms which makes hookups much easier (I'll never buy another tractor without 'em).

I think the MX5100's (updated MX5000) are available with HST, now. Might be a cost effective alternative to the L3540 if you ever think you'll need the extra HP.

The Grand L 3540 HST-3 is a great sized tractor, and the 724 loader is quite powerful. Get the 72" HD round back bucket with the bolt on edge guard you won't be sorry, I just can't say enough about my L3540, great size tractor, oh also check on quick couplingso you can change bucket for front forks or what else you think you may need. Happy Tractor-ing!

Thanks for the info. It does seem that the L4400/4600 and the MX series are probably the overall best bang for your buck. But I need to be pampered, absolutely HAVE to have tilt wheel, HST+, etc. :)

Is the bolt on edge guard all that important? I don't like the way the bolts stick out the top. I also use my ratchet rake a lot; would the bolt on edge effect the ratchet rake fit? I guess the bolt-on will also bolt OFF if need be.

I will get quick attach. I didn't ask for it but my dealer pushed for it and he says he includes it at cost (I think he said around $300). It would be nice at least to be able to take the bucket off when mowing the yard.

I desperately need hooks. Don't have em on my bucket now and I wish for them every time I move something big.

You should talk to the dealer about putting them on before delivery, but be sure to specify how many and where to locate them as our dealer did not put them on our 8540 the way we wanted and my sons will have to move them or add a couple more as two are close the outside rather than in line with the lift arm and they didn't reinforce them so one is already bent.

I got some from Truck and Tow for my sons to put on our 5030 as soon as one of them can get caught up.

I got my weld on grab hooks from Truck and Tow. 5/16" hooks fits 1/4, 5/16, and 3/8 chain. I put 5 on. With heavy duty round back bucket, no need to reinforce the welds. Philip.
