Hydraulic hose comes in various grades/pressure ratings, as do the fittings. Higher grade/pressure ratings and fittings cost more. Shops which do a low volume of making custom hoses stock the higher pressure/grade hose and fittings, because a higher grade hose and fittings will work for less demanding applications. When you have the low volume shops make them, they charge more for the hose because their base material costs are higher.
My brother had a buddy from the Air Guard, who bought his flight line service truck, which was set up to repair and make hydraulic components for F4s, when the Guard got rid of the F4s. He had a thriving little business making custom hoses onsite for construction equipment. His new hoses cost a bit more than a genuine Cat or Deere piece, but he came out, made it, and put your equipment back in service far faster than ordering a new hose from the dealer.
