Crazy weather in the PNW. Do we think there will be any power grid issues?
I have not heard that. Could be because very few houses around here have air conditioning. Shade trees for the afternoon sun are seldom even thought of. Which is why it is such a panic, temperatures inside the houses easily can get 10 to 20 degrees hotter than outside.

This may well be one of those ultra rare occasions. I jump off the dock and into my lake before mid-August. If you folks back in New York hear a mighty scream - that's me hitting the water. I know the surface temps are above freezing - no ice. But not by much. I've tried the lake before, at this time of year. Almost got all the way across while still running on the top.

Actually - I'll most likely just spray myself and Brownie with the garden hose.
The salt water around here is about 55 degrees summer or winter. I might be tempted. My dock goes dry at about +1 tide, so I hope I notice the tide level before I jump off of it.

low 40s C right now, (about 105 F) ... higher temps in the days ahead

I put the sprinkler on for the chickens and ducks

Sagging wires, for sure. The conductors are all aluminum, which expands when it gets hot. The wire sags.
I've seen ("heard about" is more accurate) railroads buckle but never thought about powerline sag, I imagine that could get sporty especially if linemen need to do some work on them.

I know this doesn’t help you northern people, but the temperature in the Mojave right now is 93.7*. Single digit humidity and quite comfortable outside right now. I better enjoy it now, as the real heat 110+ will becoming soon. Go figure
Where you at? My very young years were spent in Lancaster and I've spent quite a bit of time professionally at Ft. Irwin.

Interesting situation. About eight years ago the City of Cheney had new sidewalks poured going out of town. The contractor didn't leave enough room for expansion. During hot weather the walks would buckle up - about every 15 feet or so - up 8" or so. With this extra hot weather the sidewalks look like a roller coaster ride. I'm surprised somebody hasn't filed an accident/injury claim against the city.

I’m in SW Oregon, NOAA weather is predicting 110 on Saturday. Holy cow, it’s only June! We are very worried about the forest fire situation. It’s been a very dry spring, and there are still spot fires flaring up from last years fires.
Makes getting stuck in swamp almost cool watching millions of gallons bubbing out of the ground year round feeding into the Mississippi River.

We have a local road that is concrete. Just about anytime temps get to high 90s, this road buckles. They replace the buckled section, then the next section buckles. It's an ongoing issue.
