Photo comparison: NH, Kubota, Branson, JD, etc

Don, I actually sent PMs to several other people and took their feedback as to what terms to use. The majority won. Some people didn't think it mattered. The reality is that I did my best. I changed some of my initial terms based on the feedback I got. I contacted owners of Kioti (3), MF (1), Mahindra (1), Deere (3), Century(1), Kubota (3), NH (1). I let them tell me what to say.

If hoses are above the top of the hood and not protected between the loader frame and the engine area then they are "exposed" or "unprotected" by just about any definition that is reasonable to apply.

As for your point about the quick connects being low and collecting with grit, well anything is a trade off. But you will notice that several of the tractors have loader valves mounted high but the hoses are still "protected" so I don't think the high loader valve forces "unprotected" hoses. But it is all there in the photos for everyone to see.

Because the joystick for the loader is separated from the loader hose connections, here is a photo of the connection. It is set in front of the right side loader mount.

Very nice picture story, Bob. I have taken quite a few pics of the tractors I'm contemplating buying. I try to take the same series of pics with every tractor for my personal comparison since I can't remember all the details once home. Thanks for taking the time for all of us to see a great comparison!

By using 'unprotected' in your base criteria infers all tractors with hoses/disconnects mounted high near the rear of the tractor hood are 'unprotected' and this is not necessaryily true for all tractors. The person viewing the pictures should be able to form there own opinion based on the picture, not the original posters opinion.

I really don't think the terminology used is that big of a deal.

What it does is help the viewer, who may not have any tractor experience what so ever, understand more clearly what some of the considerations are that need to be looked at when they are evaluating a particular tractor.

As long as the terminology is applied equitablly, it really is not a problem.

Don, please look at all the pictures. You will notice that I show 3 different models from Kubota (B7800, B2910 and B3030). All of them have hoses/disconnects mounted high near the rear of the tractor hood yet all of them have "protected" hoses.

Again, I took terms from a group of people who all participated in helping come up with the issues to talk about, and to avoid.

JD 4120 with heavy bucket - wish I had a better picture, but you can see it's heavy construction...the bucket is a beast and hasn't dinged or bent yet!...even after some hard work banging on stumps trying to get them out.

Geeze, "protected" is a statement of fact, not opinion.

Well........ actually an interpretation.

Dirt and hydraulics don't mix well when connecting and disconnecting the quick-disconnects was my thought. I'd rather have the disconnects up and away than down and dirty. Less chance of introducing dirt into the hydraulic lines.
