and yes, I believe Leroy's post is correct in that there shouldn't be any interference on an L4330 or an L5030. It is definately worth spending the extra coin for the larger tractor if you want the Michelin's.

I was hoping to add my spreadsheet yesterday, but one thing it shows is there are smaller Goodyear R1W's that would fit the smaller L's without the hacking!

Re: Picking up Glenn\'s Work - R1W Tires Grand L\'s

That would be the way to go. Even RichH had to hack the daylights out of his L4610 so I suspect you would still be doing it on the L4330, L4630 and L5030. While at the dealer I noticed the clearances are still not great and you really need the wheel turned, thats when the interference shows up. I would much prefer to stay in the stock sizes. The speedometer by the way is configurable to many different tire sizes. Theres a way you do it as described in the setup manual that you do not get with the tractor. It's a snap to do. If I was having traction problems, I would consider switching, almost did when I originally purchased the tractor hoping brand new R4's would entice someone and help offset the cost of the Michelin XM27's on the rear. I like to use 2WD as much as possible when mowing and I am sure they would help. Problems is, even with all the dirt moving I'm doing, the rears just don't wear. I suspect you will eat 3 pairs of fronts before the rears need consideration. Ken, great reasearch on this. It interests a lot of folks even if they aren't replying.

Sorry for Glens analness. He was really bent on the radial Michelins and investigated it with a passion, that was fun as an observer. I always suspected though that on his little HP L30, it was way over kill. He was not going to generate the power to turn the things when the traction was good. The few times my L3830 can really spin my tires is in mud, other then that, I simply don't have the power to really "smoke them". I would still like to have the radials. The Michelin website did a good job of explaining the advantages.

Thanks for contributing Rat, I too suspect the tires will hit but the 4 cyl L30's are a bit longer wb than the L10's including the L4610.

The Michellin's are only 1/4" larger radius than the stock front ag's on the L5030 but it is the wider, squarer profile that is the problem. A rim with less offset would help this too but the front end of the tractor would end up narrower.

The Goodyear DT810, 280/70R16 measures in at 1.3 inches smaller diameter than the stock ag's and may fit perfectly.

I notice that at the Goodyear site they seem to focus on radials for the rear. Since those will always be the primary drive wheels on our compacts that I am aware of I guess it makes sense. I would definitely consider the 17.4/24's for my tractor to replace mine when they wear out or die from abuse. With 400 hours on them, they show no sign of dying anytime soon. They are just breaking in.

By the way, it's good to see some of the old names there. I started off as Paddock but quickly changed my name to Rat after realizing Paddock had no meaning other then it was the name of my street.

Rat, I doubt you'll see any wear on your tires in a long time! R-4's have hard compounds so driving a backhoe around on pavement won't wear so bad.

The front are designed for skidsteers which are hard on tires too.

Ag's tires normally don't do well on pavement, the International we use gets a set of front (mfwd) tires every few hundred hours it seems when travelling on the road a lot doing snow removal. The rears are at about 25% but they are a couple of thousand hours old.

It is neat to read through the old threads on the forum, some interesting posts back in there! It seemed to be a bit tighter knit group then!

Great folks here now too Ken. I think another difference was that it was pretty small. There were not nearly so many posts. Today I pretty much turn off many of the different brands. I just don't want to spend that much time on it.
