There is a whole thread on embarrassing moments on tractors, so you are not alone. I routinely use four different tractors of three different makes, one of which is a geared unit, you would not believe the mental gymnastics I go through some times.

Not sureI would have appreciated this comment until I switched tractors - Keep going for the fuel on the floor (it is a hydro) and keep reaching for the shuttle shift. You look like a fool when you reach up and try to grab something that is not there!

I'm making a plywood roof & want to use those two nuts to secure diagonal roof supports.

OK, so back to these two welded-on nuts ... I can not figure out what size they are?!? :confused2:

I've now tried a 3/8" regular threaded U.S. bolt, a 3/8" fine threaded U.S. bolt, & a 10mm metric bolt ... and none fit. They all thread in about one full turn & stop. Oiled 'em realy good too, just to make sure.

Any ideas?!?!

In american threads, there are two standard threads, coarse and fine. In metric, there are three standard 10mm sizes. 10mm x 1.0, 10mm x 1.25, and 10mm x 1.5. If what you have tried so far only thread on about 1 turn, try the other two metric sizes.

Beppington, I love that tractor.

What size bush hog is that again? How does the tractor work it? Think it could handle pretty grown up (over 6 ft brush and some 1-2" saplings) abandoned pasture?

Thanks for the compliment! And, it's a 5-foot Ford. Not sure the model #. Seems to be built like a tank. My tractor operates it great, though. No problem with PTO power at all. No problem hogging thru really, really thick grass & tall weeds, like you said 6' high, or even higher. I've run over a lot of large stuff while trying to clear my new property, & it's never had a problem. I may slow down just a touch when it gets really thick/ tall, but that's as much because I can't see a thing & don't thoroughly know the property I'm mowing. It can handle some 2" saplings, as long as they aren't Oak or other hard wood. That's certainly the upper limit, though. I usually jump off & polesaw those off at the ground when I think they're gonna be too hard on the bush hog.

The only thing that's ever really stopped the bush hog is when the county guys came in & cleared a gas pipeline right-of-way before I owned the property, they cut down about a 9" dia tree & left it's stump sticking up about 8"-10". Not high enough for me to see it, but certainly high enough to catch the hog. Fortunately I was going slower at that moment, since everywhere around it was incredibly dense ~3' hi grass/ weeds, so all it did was stop the tractor cold, no damage to the hog at all.

I used a 6' bush hog thru this stuff. I was getting into stuff 6' to 7' high, but no saplings. Power was fine when traveling 4 mph. If I pushed it to 4.5 mph, it would occasionally lay on govenor in really thick areas. My biggest problem was all the seeds and leaves coming off these weeds. Every hour or so I would have to clean radiator screen to keep from overheating. 18 acres on a brand new tractor, not my idea of a first job, but it had to be done. Philip.

You need to post a "finished" pic of that area!
