Pipe smoking

Many years ago when I was young, I tried smoking a Pipe. I couldn't keep it lit. I haven't smoked in years, but I still love the smell of a Pipe. If I'm in a mall with a tobacco shop, I go inside just to smell the various kinds of tobacco.
hey there use to be a DR GRABOW pipe factory down your way, might have been in [high point] is it still around.

But in 1964, after 5 years of smoking a pipe, I gradually changed to cigarettes. Then in 2006, I just quit smoking completely.

I went the other way. After 20 years of smoking cigarettes, I switched to pipe smoking to break the cigarette habit, on the way to quitting entirely. Man, I really grew to love that pipe. I worked in the city, and rush hour traffic was a nightmare. I would stoke a bowl in the parking lot on the way home, and by the time I got home I would be relaxed and comfortable. I tell people that if a doctor ever tells me I only have 6 months to live, one of the first things I'm going to do is go back to smoking a pipe.

I favored a mild Cavendish. For the non-pipe smokers, buy at least two, so you can let one rest. Pipes get bitter if you smoke them every day.

Well - I basically started out smoking cigars at age 12. Yeah, I had to sneak out to do it, but it was the 'macho' thing to do :) Especially those little rum cured Red Dots. Then I graduated to a pipe for a lot of years. Boss told me one day that anyone that had time to keep a pipe lit on the job simply wasn't doing enough work. I took that to heart and set my pipes aside.

Picked up cigarettes with a couple of cigars per day. Finally dropped the cigars due to coplaints from non-smokers in the office. And I've quit cigarettes a couple of times for a couple of years at a time simply because it wasn't at all convenient at the time. But, I've always loved the smell of tobacco, and still smoke because I enjoy it. It's one of the very few vices in life that I have, but it looks like Big Brother is going to demand that I quit.

I won't say that smoking of any kind is good. But if you'd been repeadedly exposed to lethal chemicals all your life working in chemical plants, ususally without protective clothing and breathing apparatus, smoking would be the least of your concerns.

Heck! I'm going to go get my Harley out, lite up, and go enjoy life for a little while!

Larry, the only reason I changed from pipe to cigarettes was that when I joined the police department, we couldn't smoke in the police academy, but had periodic 10 minute breaks, and most of us would go outside on those breaks. A pipe was too much trouble for a 10 minute break. Then when I got out of the Academy in June, hot weather in Texas, our black cars were not air-conditioned back then, so we usually had all four windows down, and the wing vents (who remembers those?) turned to draw in all the air possible, so that made smoking a pipe without sparks flying a problem. And of course we couldn't smoke while talking to other people and the ash tray in 1963-64 Fords was not big enough to put the pipe in.

It's funny, I don't smoke on a regular basis, sometimes it's 4-12 weeks between smokes, it's when the desire hits me, then sometimes I smoke a few times a week (yeah, I'm crazy like that )

I've never been a cigarette smoker, but I definitely enjoy a pipe now and then...very, very relaxing.

my pipes are burl.. I'd LOVE to find a cob pipe.

Yeah, I like the cobs, mostly what I smoke, when I smoke. I've got some briar pipes, but I definitely love the cobs. For those of you who abstain, the hat's off.

I like a cigar now and then, but the boss prefers the pipe, by a long shot. ;) And, I'm allowed to stay inside.

Carter Hall still rules.

The MM pipes are great, I prefer this one... Corn Cob Country Gentleman Bent Pipe I've got a number of cob's, they smoke sweet, are very reasonable, and will last a long time with care.

NOW, if you're not supposed to smoke at all...DON'T. Rant over. :D

 Actually, who IS "supposed" to smoke? We're all going to wherever if we even see some smoke on the interwebnet, no? ;)
