Yeah, I think it's been that way awhile. Last year, at some point, it was difficult to get some models of the cobs, shortages due to crop shortages (?). Good pipes.

Larry, the only reason I changed from pipe to cigarettes was that when I joined the police department, we couldn't smoke in the police academy, but had periodic 10 minute breaks, and most of us would go outside on those breaks. A pipe was too much trouble for a 10 minute break. Then when I got out of the Academy in June, hot weather in Texas, our black cars were not air-conditioned back then, so we usually had all four windows down, and the wing vents (who remembers those?:laughing turned to draw in all the air possible, so that made smoking a pipe without sparks flying a problem. And of course we couldn't smoke while talking to other people and the ash tray in 1963-64 Fords was not big enough to put the pipe in.

That quick hit is the big reason cigarettes are so popular. Those of us who have smoked a pipe know the difference. I particularly liked that I didn't have to inhale to get my nicotine. 45 minutes finishing a bowl would give me plenty of nicotine through my mouth membranes without wrecking my lungs. I used to enjoy the occasional cigar for the same reason, but cigars cost a fortune compared to pipe smoking.

Any of you guys know where I put my lighter(s)? Finally ready to light up a bowl...and can't find either of my lighters. #$#@!@

For those who have been worrying laughing, it's not all for naught. While looking for a lighter, I found out that the hygrometer battery for my mini humidor has gone out...so I will smoke a stogie...if I can find a $#!@ light. Carry on.

Found a light...and decided to go with the pipe, a little Boswell's Apple Struedel from 2009 (a very good year ).

Haven't smoked a pipe in 10 or 15 years, briar, meerschaum, and corn cob,still have them, smoked cavendish blends.
