Yeah, but look at that trailer that he got for $2150 in 2007, bet it would be a fair bit more now!
I have a PJ 18 foot car hauler with the diamond plate fenders and five foot ramps. I paid 2,150 before tax. I have had it for just over a year now and would guess that I have about 5,000 miles on it. I love the trailer, it tows nice, has a built in ramp holders on the right side. I have the pressure treated 2x6 deck. When I went looking for a trailer this was the only one that had a 5" channel main frame and 2" channel crossmembers for less than 2,500. I have towed angle ironed framed trailers before and watched the flex and did not like it. I only have two complaints about the trailer #1 the wiring had scotch locks all over it. I have since replaced every one with solder and heat shrink, did not want the green fuzzies. #2 the tounge jack location, on the inside of the right hand tounge rail. It pivots and pins on tubing. Good design of the jack but it does not allow you to put a tool box on the tounge.
All and all I really like the trailer and it has been good. It came with C rated tires and when the trailer is loaded to darn near capacity it looks like they are over loaded even though they are not according to specs. When these need replaced I will will replace them with a D rated tire.

I own 2 PJ's. 12' dump and 20' equipment trailer both 14 K GVW. Both great trailers. The dump has gone way over 14k and no issues. No lighting issues ever.

I have no experience with PJ trailers, so nothing to add there.

I know Ricky Baker, who started and owns Big Tex. He is a self-made man. He is honest and wants to make the customer happy. Make one person happy and they will tell ten others....make one person mad and they will tell everybody.

This little feature on him shows you where he came from and what kind of man he is. I would always prefer to understand the folks I do business with and know their background and motivation. Ricky is a fine person and the innovations in his process show his desire to make the process repeatable and one of quality.

I used to own a 16' pj. Never had a single issue with it. Sold it 5 years later for what i paid for it. Mind you i always housed it in shop. Never outdoors.

For the reasons listed above we stopped selling powder coated trailers. Just too many complaints about the finish. On the painted trailers we sold we can get a rattle can of code matched paint for $12.99 plus shipping.

Who's making dump trailers that are painted, rather than powder coated these days? I'm shopping 14K dump trailers, so I'm not set on a brand yet.

I thought powder coating would hold up, and I was wrong. I should have thought it through more: what do people from the south know about winter? Not a thing.

Just one drive in a Minnesota winter and the finish is all screwed up. If I get the time, I will sandblast and repaint with some proper automotive paint.

We must know something about winter, we are down here.
