I have never been asked for ID for anything in HD, liquid nails or otherwise. I wonder if it is a local HD policy or some new HD policy (been a year since I bough liquid nails) or a law (city/county/state/national)??

Many stores are asking for zip code now. They claim it is know where their customers are from. many folks don't/won't give zip or give a bogus.. the data is garbage then...

What did they do with the information? did the clerk just examine it? or did they enter something into a log?

I get tired of meaningless "policies" and stuff. BTW, thanks for serving!

The storage of information by others about our habits really came into reality the other day when I went to exchange a cell phone with a replacement. With no battery in the old phone, they completely restored my replacement phone by downloading it from the net. Everything I had downloaded to the phone since I got it was added to the replacement phone, except text messages, which apparently aren't worth tracking YET.

I'm sure some give a bogus zip code, but I'll bet most folks give their own. We were full time RVers from Jan. '89 to Jan. '95 and in traveling around the country, occasionally a store cashier would ask for a phone number (a few places still do) and I'd just say, "I don't have one" which was the truth. Back then we didn't have a cell phone or any other phone or phone number. They probably didn't believe me, but no one ever questioned me further.

Funny, I'm a Vet and just bought Liquid Nails yesterday at Lowes, no id required, except a quick glance for my discount. Perhaps you look funny or live in a weird state for them to want your ID for that purchase. Not sure why you drag "veteran" into this problem you had though.

I'm also a veteran and just don't see how showing ID for buying glue is infringing on your rights. Does that fall under the life, liberty and pursuit of liquid nails provision? A private business can do whatever they like, make your wear a shirt or shoes, not climb up high to reach an item or they may refuse to give you any service period. If you don't like it you can take your business elsewhere and vote with your wallet.

In 2005 my state (Oregon) started making everybody show ID to buy OTC allergy meds with pseudoephedrine in them. This was an effort to stem the ridiculous meth/tweeker problem that we had, and you know what? It was a pain in the A## but it was worked very well.

Oregon credits the law with dramatically reducing the number of meth labs. In 2003, Oregon shut down 473 meth labs. Last year, they discovered just 21. There were 374 in California.

Amazing. And frustrating.
Thanks for your service.
Not having used liquid nails, I dunno if it smells good or not or if one could rot your brain from sniffing it... unclear to me why it would be a "controlled substance." Maybe somebody here on TBN will know.

I guess an illegal alien can't buy liquid nails? Now THAT'S a violation of rights :)

I have a semi valid zip code, for a nearby university that I use, and for a phone number I use an old number that has long been disconnected.

A lot of times I'll just tell the clerk, "Hey this is a cash transaction, do we really need to go through all this?". Usually if the 'puter system requires it, they'll use the stores zip and/or phone number.

I quess being innocent until proven quilty is gone, now we have to prove we are innocent just because. Of course wasting my time to show ID for something that would not make a difference either way, still bought the liquid nail and still could have snorted it. Why waste my time having me dig out an ID that in the long run won't make a difference?

Does that fall under the life, liberty and pursuit of liquid nails provision?

  good one. No I just feel it falls under the quit harassing me for stupid #%@! provision.

This statement is not true especially up here. We have private businesses that are dictated to by the government to not allow legal activity's

You are correct though, I could have taken my business else where but according the lady it is a law??????

Well I quess if there is a huge liquid nail meth business than maybe they should have asked for addresses etc.... BUT would that stop it, I don't know? My point is that I'm getting sick of stupid laws that don't do squat except harass the common innocent joe. Crack/meth heads are going to get around these stupid laws, but innocent folks are suppose to bend over and take the harassment.

Thank you and all the others that have served. The reason I "draged veteran" into this {I thought was clear} is because I have served this country and helped defend FREEDOMS{or conviences however you want to word it} same as many others. I figure I have a right to say something when I see these stupid laws being passed all the time that just keep stripping us down. I feel our society is slowly being turned into a bunch of mindles trolls. I realize many laws/regulations have a purpose. I just hope others realize many laws/regulations only serve as a way to control, wether it be through the wallet or just plain control.

Oh by the way, I'm sure I do look wierd :p and I definatley live in a messed up state. The sad part about that is this state sets many things in motion that follows through to other states, just something to think about.
