Today, after finishing te holes and adding 2" of #57 stone for drainage, we sunk our first pole.

And here is where we were at by the end of the day. All poles set except for the two for the main door. Not a bad days work. Special thanks to my Dad and brother for their help. I wouldn't have gotten them all in without you.

Well it turns out that the old floor joist that I scavenge from a jobsite weren't all the same height. They ranged from 14"-13" tall. So we ripped them all to 13". It was a slow process, being that I still have the original blade (non-carbide tooth) on my tablesaw. The blade managed to hang in there long enough to rip enough boards for one side. So, here is where it stands after today.

Thanks Chuck. I'm sorry to say that there won't be any progress for a few weeks as I busted some ribs at work last monday. Maybe I can keep things going if all of my help doesn't mind my "supervisor only"status. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OUCH! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Sorry to hear about your injury, hope you heal soon! Take it easy and try to stick to the "supervisor" status /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When my son and I built our pole barn, I fell off a ladder and sprained an ankle pretty bad (don't ask how). The next day I somehow managed to get on the roof to nail down some shingles (10 square) before it rained, but man did I pay for it! Lots of Advil and a few beers that night... and the next... and the next /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Let's just say I started building this barn under the county's radar and got caught. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Actually I didn't realize I needed a permit for a pole barn but, they set me straight. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif No fines they just required I get a permit which was a project in itself. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Anyway, due to the stall, the recycled 2"x13" heart pine floor joist I was going to use started to curl pretty bad, so I had to back up and punt. Since the county is overseeing the project now and the recent stiffening in codes due to hurricanes, I decided to use double 2"x12" notched into the poles an inch and a half.
