Re: Possible eBay ID Theft on two Bobcat 873\'s

I don't use Ebay very often (less than 10 purchases over the past few years), so maybe someone could tell me why this happened. Does this mean the seller unscrupulous?
I got this email earlier tonight--

<font color="blueclass=small"> Dear _____,

Please be advised that the following auction:

2449366802 - Ford : Tempo

was ended early by eBay. The auction was ended due to the account suspension of the seller.
All results for this auction are null and void.

Re: Possible eBay ID Theft on two Bobcat 873\'s

I do not know what the reason for the suspension was on the car that you were looking at.

However, I did not contact the seller on the Bobcat until the item was suspended from Ebay. Just playing the person just to see what kind of reaction one was to receive. Do not recall all of the accessories that were included, but the total had to be at least 45K with the attachments, plus free air freight from Italy, with 115 hours, a year old, for 5,000. what kind of idiots do they think are out there, or are some people really thing they there really are bargains out there like that.

The indication that one was to receive based on one of the emails, do not know if I posted that one or not, was that the factory was in Italy, however they are made right here in good old North Dakota.

In addition to the other facts of information that were incorrect, the address was not a vailid address.

I have purchased items on Ebay with excellent results, however they have always been small items. On larger items, as stated previously, escrow is a must. Also telephone conversations or an inspection.

Re: Possible eBay ID Theft on two Bobcat 873\'s

Last night's news had a story about a woman who sold her 56 chevy on ebay. The buyer was from the middle east and sent her a cashiers check for the amount plus nine thousand for the shipping with a request for her to send that amount to the shipper.

She did.

The cashier check was finally found out to be phony.

Her check to the shipper wasn't.

She's out the nine grand. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

From the few scams I've seen, these foreign cashier checks appear valid to the local banks--and they cash them, only to find out they are worthless several days/weeks later, and come back on the victim for ALL the $$$$$$ back.

Least that's what I've read..

Re: Possible eBay ID Theft on two Bobcat 873\'s

This one is very easy.... the seller hadn't paid for previous auction listing and sales commission fees. In this case e Bay will cancel the auctions and not allow you to bid until they get their money. e Bay is quick to suspend a member when they are owed money, but not too helpful if you have been swindled out of money. Fraud is not a top priority if they keep getting paid. I got burned by one seller and he had about 15 negative feedbacks posted in one week and continued to list auctions even though he wasn't shipping merchandise. As long as they got paid, they kept allowing him to list items until his feedback developed into the negative numbers...

Yep, that scam has been around a while as well. Its' to bad the banks can't/don't check wether its' valid or not right away.

Reminds me of the lottery ticket scam among others.

Craigslist and other sites are getting a lot more of these scams now too.... Yeah ebay is definitely an accessory to the fact facilitating all the scammers... the first email that is written in broken, bass akwards English is a guarantee that its a scammer...
