The spreader is a small one....would probably need a lift clearance of apprx 48 inches or so.....and I agree that I'll probably rig up some sort of ramp if the clearance isn't enough. I was leaning toward a ZTR(and picking up a "rust bucket" locally for cheap to do the manure) until reading about the downhill problems with them...and I have plenty of hills to navigate, don't want any out of control problems. Thanks for your input on the grass cutting...don't get me wrong, I don't expect a golf course cut for the front yard but do want somethoing decent to look at while tipping back a few on the deck! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Paul had mentioned something that I had forgotten...

The 4-in-1 bucket... See, the problem is not that you can't clear the side of a wagon or low pickup truck. The problem is once you clear it, you cannot dump the bucket, because it would come down and hit the side. But the 4-in-1 bucket can be opened from the bottom. I'm pretty sure manure would 'plop out' pretty easily. Just a thought. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Bob:
Bubenberg (Hans Luginbuhl) is in Plumsteadville. I see he posted one message last night, so he isn't working 24 hr. per day as he claims. With the onset of Spring, however, his landscape/lawn/fence business does pick up.
Hans has a much travelled 425. He sometimes mows with the 60" deck and two Acrease wing mowers.
Send a private message on TBN to Bubenberg and invite yourself to see his PT. It may take a little juggling, but the forecast has some rain in it which may give him a break.

I don't know if you received my private messages I sent you before. I am about 25 minutes from Johnstown and 45 minutes from Somerset. I am 5 miles south of New Florence and 9 miles north of Ligonier right on route 711. Like I said before you are welcome to come try my 422 , I have the 48 inch finish mower and I think it does a nice job of mowing , most of my mowing is on hills of various slopes.

I need apprx 38" clearance to load the spreader..it seems even the PT180 should clear that easily? Been doing some comparisons between 180, 422 and 424...I wonder if I need more than 18HP to climb the uneven terrain I have while cutting grass?...I would estimate the steepest area at about 25 degrees or so. The other main difference appears to be the attachments available and lift capacity. I think 600lbs(or even 400 lbs) should be enough for me but the 180 does not have a oil cooler/fan?? How important is this considering I would be using it for stretches of 1.5 to 2 hours at a time if I decide to cut all the property at once? Any opinions on these models knowing I don't plan on any "heavy commercial" type work very often? Thanks again for all your help! I'm glad I found this site/forums...nothing like (mostly) unbiasd opinions!

Ran my PT-180 for about 2.5 hours yesterday doing all sorts of work (brush hog, bulldozing cactus, mowing) in 85 degree weather and didn't have any problems with overheating. Time will tell if the cooler fan will be an issue when temps get into the 100's. I don't have any big hills on my property, though.

Good point....knowing I need to clear 38inches+ I guess it could be tight. If you were to buy one bucket i guess the 4 in 1 is the way to go as compared to the light material, etc?

If you really have slopes that steep, I HIGHLY recommend you get the 425. It has the horsepower to climb the hills, has an oil cooler (not to be underestimated) and has the ROPs - getting anywhere near tip-over territory is not for the faint-hearted. I have some steep grades on my property, and would NOT go without 4WD, low Center-of-Gravity AND ROPS!

I thought about getting the cheaper items, and decided the couple of thousand extra for my uses was well worth potentially saving my life. Now that I have the 425, I am super-glad I got it. Even mowing up and down the slope is pleasureable now.
