Power Trac's Attitude Toward Modifications

So, any other insights into Power Tracs attitude towards owner made changes in their PT? Has anyone been refused warranty work because they made a modification?

I don't know of anyone that has been denied warranty work due to modifications that they made. I've been here for five years and haven't heard that yet. I have heard of a couple warranty issues, but not due to modifications.

Thanks, I've been looking for them. Last time I saw them they were next to the table saw behind the Simplicity but not past the bicycles and right next to the Landcruiser body... right by the scrap lumber, old trainset, telescope, TVs and croquet set. :)

Not surprising. The warranty only covers parts.
On a serious note, the PT warranty is quite limited. Unless the specific part being replaced has been modified, or the entire machine is returned to PT, it would be quite difficult for PT to know if modifications had been made.

I agree. And after a year, it is "yours" anyway so I doubt they would mind the modifications. I would like to meet the folks behind Power Trac some day.

I would bet that they monitor this site as a daily routine. It would not be to hard to do. Just become a member of TBN, and they can monitor every thing we say, and all modifications. They might even change things by reading all the post.

Power Trac may not read every post, but they definitely monitor the board. If they see something that needs attention, they pay attention, but don't ask them to admit they changed something because we suggested it. :D

My more cynical response is that if I mess up the machine with a modification after warranty is over, the manufacturer will definately not cover it. If I mess it up when the warranty is in affect then they might cover it. If it fails and is not my fault they might cover it, but not always. So modify while under warranty and put it back the way it was when you mess up.
Now I would just tell them what really happened and hope for the best.

I asked Scott the last time I was in Tazewell (this year) if he monitors Tractorbynet and he said it had been a year or so. It is my belief that the people at Power Trac are not very computer savy. On my first visit (in 2000) we were calculating the total cost of my purchase. I suggested that we use the computer that was sitting on the sales guy's desk. He just shook his head like he really did not know how to use it. It was off and I never saw it on. I think it was just a show piece. I have also seen from comments here that they don't answer email, so I don't think things have changed. Does anyone have information that this has changed? It may be there, but I have not seen it.
