I went to my parents' house today for a bit. When my dad got there, he had returned from his local Kubota dealership where he bought his BX about 10 years ago. He goes in there often for parts for it (usually the mower deck wheels) or other small engine stuff since he owns a tree company. He's maintained a good relationship with the salesman that sold him his BX over the years and he was talking to the salesman today about me looking at tractors. The salesman told him to tell me that once I got a good final price on the one I want at my local Kubota dealer, come in and see him and he'd try to do better. That dealer is about 75 miles from me but for the right price difference or freebies included, I'd let them deliver me a tractor.

Just curious, is tractor delivery usually free from most dealers or is that something you have to pay for or do yourself? Looks like this month will be the month we purchase.

Sounds like a good guy to work with. 75 miles is a little far, but I doubt you'll need to drive it there after you bring it home. It costs them money to deliver it, so they either charge, or roll that cost in somewhere else.

One thing to keep in mind is that the local dealer may not be willing to work on your tractor if you need service, or warranty repairs. That may not be a deal killer, but you my have to plan for a way to transport your tractor to the selling dealer if it needs any work (not too likely, but it does happen).

Also, loaded tires are great for more traction, but they don't take any weight of the front axles (reducing wear), and usually don't add enough weight to let you max your loader....you'll likely need a fairly heavy counterweight to max the loader.

This has been discussed before. I was under the impression that since the warranty was through Kubota, any dealer was obliged to work on it. I mean, what happens if you buy a tractor then move to a new area? Is your warranty useless? I certainly understand that it'd be more polite to ask dealer that sold it to service it, but I didn't think they could refuse to service it if you didn't buy there.

That said, 75 miles isn't too bad. If you have to put it on the trailer anyway, it's not that big of a deal. I'd take it where I bought it, since they're going to be more likely to treat you well.

All 4x4, all with FEL, and all HST. I have a rough quote of $25k for the L4600 and haven't checked on the MX's yet. Website build price is within $300 for the L4600 and MX5100 and the MX4700 is cheapest. For my use, the extra HP isn't a requirement; in fact I could probably get away with the L3800 and I only started looking at the L4600 so I didn't buy something too small the first time. If the MX4700 is cheapest, why should I get that over the L4600?

I just bought a new 4wd L4600, shuttle tranny, with the FEL only. Wrote the ck for $24K, out the door. Also, the rear tires were filled with menthanol/water combo. Front 72" bucket is the QA type.

I think this was an EOY close out. The new units are $2K more because they have some new smog type device.

Also check Barlows in KY - we was able to deliver my 5100 to my house in WV for a fair amount less than the local dealers and was great to deal with.

I'll be doing the $0 down 0% financing so the rebate doesn't apply.

For kicks, I called a dealer in Manassas that advertises on my local Craigslist today. They quoted me $29,500 for the same MX5100 HST 4x4 with FEL that my local Kubota dealer quoted me at $27,500. I still need to call my dad's dealer and get a quote, but a $2000 difference between two dealers on the same machine is pretty drastic, especially since my local dealer doesn't have it sitting in their stock but said they'd get me one.

MX5100 was a no brainer for me as well, the 3pt arms alone pay for the difference. The turbo was an added bonus, IMO a diesel just isn't a diesel without the whistle. However on the MX5100 the turbo is really only there for emissions purposes, I highly doubt it makes much difference in power or fuel consumption.

One situation where the turbo really pays off is at higher elevations. At my place (9000 ft) the HP loss without turbo would be about 27% due to lack of O2. This probably isn't an issue in WV, but for elevations at 4000-5000 ft and higher it is a big deal. (50HP engine would produce only about 35 HP without turbo.)
